About the store
I have taught math at Summit Middle School in Fort Wayne, Indiana for 15 years. I teach 8th grade math, a remedial math class and Geometry for high school credit to 7th and 8th graders. I've also been the Math Department Leader for 14 years. For the past 7 years, I've partnered with our local university, Indiana University-Purdue University in Fort Wayne, to host their Math Methods pre-service teachers for "active" field experience in which they teach in pairs for a mini student teaching experience ... planning, teaching and reflecting together.

Multi-Step Fraction Equations Hot Seat Activity
This activity gets students thinking and moving as they solve multi-step equations containing fractions. The variable is on one side only, but one of the problems requires a combination of variable terms.
This activity works for both 8th grade and Algebra I standards.
Students move among one row as a team. You can have them compete against the other teams if you wish to make this competitive.

Decimal Equation Applications Hot Seat Activity
Students move among one row as a team; for a competitive twist, you can have the teams compete for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishers The "Hot seat" means students work only one step at each seat; work ONE STEP and STAND. When everyone in the row is standing, move back one seat (the last person moves up). SIT and REPEAT until all parts of the problem are complete.
