This assignment is perfect when having students review the literary devices found in Cask of Amontillado. It was developed in a cloze format so students are able to see how certain short answer questions could/should be answered using examples from the text. Topics/Themes discussed in this worksheet are revenge, pride, irony, and suspense through foreshadowing. This could be used as a study guide or a homework assignment. This worksheet outlines a simple essay for any Sherlock Holmes story. The main thesis of this essay is that Sherlock Holmes is an amazing detective who always catches his culprit/s due to his fantastic detective skills/personality traits. Students are asked to provide evidence/quotes from the story to back up their position. It's hard even for adults to master homonyms and homophones! Imagine what it's like for our students. Introduce these most commonly confused words to your students a couple at a time or have them pick the words they use incorrectly.
