About the store
I have recently left the classroom for a data analyst job in the private sector. Prior to this transition, I have taught math at a liberal arts college for 8 years. Some of the courses I taught regularly were precalculus, statistics, and business calculus. I have also been tutoring students of all ages for many years. Oddly enough, SAT math is one of my favorite tutoring subjects because I get to solve more interesting problems with the student. It also covers many topics in mathematics.

Polynomial Function Project - Roller Coaster

Created by
Algomath
In this project, students learn how to use polynomial function to model roller coaster rides. In this first part, they are given some polynomial functions to find the relative maximum/minimum, increasing/decreasing intervals, x- and y-intercepts, etc. They will explore the average rate of change. In the second part of the project, students are asked design their own roller coaster given some basic criteria. Students should use graphing devices/computer applications to complete this project.

Create Your Own Statistics Project

This document contains a statistics project description that allows students to create their own project. This is suitable for high school and beginning level college statistics class. Students will design their own study - formulate research questions, collect data, organize and summarize the findings, calculate confidence interval and construct hypothesis testing. Certain restrictions are outlined in the document. Students will experience the complexity of constructing their own study. They a

Least Squares Regression Worksheet

This is a worksheet to review least squares regression. Students are provided with data of advertising expense and sales. Through a guided-question worksheet, students will create scatter-plot, find the regression line, and use the model to make estimations. They are also asked about the slope, y-intercept, linear correlation, causation, and out-of-scope situation. Teacher may also encourage discussion of business practices, such as sales and advertising. The document also contains suggested

This document contains 10 problems on central tendency problems. It includes problems on finding the mean, median, mode, midrange, and weighted mean. It is intended for students who have finished the central tendency unit in their statistics class or for students who are preparing for the SAT. Since the new SAT has a significant components of solving statistics application problem, I am going to put together some drill exercise, mainly application problems, for students who are studying for th

Linear and exponential function best fit line for US Forever Postage Project

Created by

In this project, students are asked to research the history of USPS and find historic data of US forever stamp prices for the past 50 years. They are asked to use the data to create a scatter/plot (time series) and create a line of best fit. They are asked to create both a linear model and an exponential model, and compare which of the two models is a better for the data collected. Then they would use the best fit line to make prediction of future postage. Rubric of this project is also attache

Holiday Gift Wrapping Geometry Project

Created by

In this project, students are asked to create a holiday gift wrapping container, calculate the surface area and volume, and compare the analytical results from the actual craft. The idea is that students should take measurements of the material and the craft, and use the geometric formulas to do calculations of surface area and volume. Students should note the difference in measurements due to cutting or overlapping pieces when taping the structure. Some errors may occur when the shape is not a

Statistics Drill 2 - Variation and Dispersion Concept

Created by
Algomath
In this drill, you will find 10 problems on variation or dispersion concept. Problems include finding the range, applying the empirical rule, and answering concept question on standard deviation. Since the SAT does not require students to calculate variance or standard deviation, the focus of the exercise is on understanding the meaning of these terms.

Teaching style

I am a more traditional instructor. I have tried to be creative by using flipped classroom and smart devices. However, I have found that students still learn best when they are given one-on-one, face-to-face instruction. Instruction needs not be dry. I think good demonstration with concrete examples would engage students learn better. Then they would be more confident in solving problems on their own. I have also allotted a lot more class time on class practice for students to work on problems. I also like to give case study assignments to my students.
