Experience

I bounced around in grades 6-8 for seven years teaching math 6, 7, 8, and pre-algebra. 2 years teaching fundamentals of geometry and algebra (6-8), and pre-algebra (6-8) online.

Teaching style

It is my goal to help students gain an appreciation for mathematics. I love hearing that a student who hates mathematics loves my class. I like to take time to get to know my students, and make them feel comfortable in my class. I find that they are much more likely to perform if they have a relationship with me. Due to teaching online, I have never met most of my students, but I don't let that stand in my way. I like to spend one-on-one time helping students, talking on microphone and/or through chat. I like to turn the video on while I am in class, so the students can see me while I am teaching.

My own education history

I spent most of my early life in Springfield, IL, where I attended elementary, middle, and high school. Then, I moved to Peoria, IL for college, where I decided that I wanted to be a teacher. Prior to my second semester of freshman year, being a teacher was something that I was absolutely positive I would never do. I am glad that I finally saw the light. After graduation, I moved to Las Vegas, NV to begin teaching. As a teacher, I will be a student for the rest of my life: doing research, taking classes, and learning from other educators.
