This is an activity that gives students the opportunity to use a newspaper to locate real-world decimals. It give students practice in rounding decimals to tenths, hundredths, thousandths, and ten thousandths. It also involves practice in lining up decimal points to add numbers with decimals together. Since this activity involves cutting and pasting, fine motor skills are also touched upon.

This activity allows the students to take a trip outdoors to explore the perimeters of different items. Students will need to find five objects in which they are to find the perimeter. This also allows them to practice their fine motor skills as they will need to sketch a smaller version of their object. This activity touches on shape recognition, as well.
