This story addresses the rules of fidgets and that if they are not used properly, they are called distractions and that distractions are taken away. I always review this with my class at the start of the year and practice using the fidgets appropriately. These rules also help when children bring toys to school be

Problem Thermometer

Children with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) often have difficulties knowing the difference between big and small problems and will display a huge reaction for every unfavorable situation. I have broken down different sizes of problems (no problem, small, medium and big) into easy to understand differences so that a child can determine what size the problem is and then what kind of reaction is expected. I have also used this with children who don't have ASD but struggle with huge reactions.

About the store

Experience

I have taught in a small group autism and behavior classroom for 13 years. I have also mentored many wonderful teachers over the years.

Teaching style

I try to employ various learning styles so that learning can be experienced in various way. I tend to use quite a bit of visual and kinesthetic approaches since that usually works best for my students. I like to make sure that the learners have a concept down well and generalized and then build on that for the next concept.
