I use this as guided notes while students watch a YouTube video introducing and explaining the concept of taxes in the United States. The video is linked on the document and is focused on teaching young adults about taxes.

I use this in the very first unit of my 8th grade math class. We are focusing on writing about mathematics and this is a support that I have seen a lot of student growth from. Students are first given time to solve the problem with pencil and paper. Then we check it as a class. Next I show the students my example (which is the file attached). This is an activity that I use to teach students about renting and moving expenses. The documents are scaffolded notes to engage students in educational short videos exploring these concepts. This is the practice problem I give my students time to complete on their own after doing the Decoding Linear Word Problems Notes (which I also have available for sale on TpT). I have students tape this into their interactive notebook right next to the notes we just took.
