This is the project I end our Financial Literacy course with each year. After studying the factors that go into purchasing a house, students are given this PowerPoint document to lead them through their own simulation of finding and purchasing a home.
Students must decide what is important to them in purchasing a home, work within a provided budget, and find an actual home for sale that best fits their values.
This PowerPoint walks students through identifying the many key costs that purchasi
This is an assessment I use in my high school geometry class. I use this right after we finish our unit covering the properties of various quadrilaterals and parallelograms. The assessment has several scenarios that happen in this theoretical amusement park. The students must perform calculations and use known properties/concepts to determine if park rides are safe to operate. It's a fun real-world application and could easily be used as just an in-class activity as well. This document is a wor
I use this project after studying the factors that go into purchasing your first car, including cost, interest, new vs. used, loans, etc. This project also provides all the internet links that I have pre-approved for my students to use while doing this project. This provides structure to lead students to be successful in their research.
The activities I do to study these factors is also for sale as "The True Cost of Cars" at my TpT store. To view these Click Here
I usually upload this to goog
I use this as guided notes while students watch a YouTube video introducing and explaining the concept of taxes in the United States. The video is linked on the document and is focused on teaching young adults about taxes.
This is an assessment I use in my high school geometry class. I use this right after we finish our unit about trigonometry, including sine, cosine, tangent, law of sines, and law of cosines. The assessment has a couple scenarios that happen with this theoretical viking ship. The students must perform calculations and use known properties/concepts help solve problems such as finding the ship's location relative to other objects at sea. It's a fun real-world application and could easily be used as
This project teaches students how to assess and create a budget for a theoretical person's expenditures.
The setup document breaks down the materials that will be needed and some details of the 7 different theoretical people. I used an envelope for each theoretical person, printed the bill amounts specified in the setup document, and several receipts that I collected from myself and colleagues.
The My Budget powerpoint leads students through the process of analyzing their theoretical person'
I use this in the very first unit of my 8th grade math class. We are focusing on writing about mathematics and this is a support that I have seen a lot of student growth from. Students are first given time to solve the problem with pencil and paper. Then we check it as a class. Next I show the students my example (which is the file attached). I read them my paragraph out loud. Then I scroll down to show two duplicates of the response. The first one has all the vocab highlighted and the second on
This is an activity that I use to teach students about renting and moving expenses. The documents are scaffolded notes to engage students in educational short videos exploring these concepts. The videos are free online and linked to the documents.
I use these to help prepare students for their upcoming project, "Buying a Home." To view the project Click Here
I do these activities with students to prepare for their "My First Car Project." You can also find the "My First Car Project" available for sale in my TpT store as well. To view the project Click Here
There are two free videos online that do a great job explaining all the big concepts and factors that go into purchasing a car. The videos are linked to the documents. These documents are guided notes to engage students with the videos and foster rich educational discussions afterwards.

This is the practice problem I give my students time to complete on their own after doing the Decoding Linear Word Problems Notes (which I also have available for sale on TpT). I have students tape this into their interactive notebook right next to the notes we just took.
