Sideways Notes- Template for Structured note-taking
This is a template for note-taking that is specifically geared towards students who otherwise will copy notes verbatim and struggle with evaluating info for importance. This template is designed for History but can be modified for other contents.

Modified Cornell Notes Template
This is a modified version of Cornell notes. I have three groups in my class, and note-taking methods are assigned based on Lexile levels. The tier with the lowest Lexiles uses the most structured format, available as my Sideways Notes Template. The Modified Cornell is less structured but provides more guidance than simply outlining.

I use USATestprep.com for US History Test prep and this form allows students to use the "Report Card" feature in order to reflect upon their strengths and weaknesses in order to better prepare themselves for the US history End of Course test.

Teaching style
When teaching a CRCT or End of Course Test class, I rely heavily on Interactive Notebooking to blend traditional techniques with differentiated and scaffolded Best Practices, including Marzano's strategies. When teaching courses that do NOT have a state test, I am in my happy place and use Project Based Learning. Regardless of my courses, I use the principles of Wiggins and McTighe's Understanding by Design.

I'm married to my high school sweetheart who is also an educator. We have two sons, one of whom is also an educator. I have two scruffy little rescue dogs that are adorable. I enjoy crafts of all kinds, doing yoga, and traveling.
