This project introduces students to a real world problem using the pythagorean theorem. Students are asked to find the perimeter of their large yard and compare price quotes from two companies who have made a bid for the job.
The work is relatively simple and is perfectly suited for Algebra I and Geometry students. It's a short project that could even be given for a homework assignment or in-class activity. The topics covered include the pythagorean theorem, perimeter, plotting points, and
This Algebra II discovery activity helps students analyze graphs of quadradic functions written in vertex form. Students investigate how changing a, h, and k affect the graphs of parabolas.
This activity was created by Caleb Wiles for his Algebra 2 unit on Quadratic Functions and Inequalities.
I rewrote the lyrics to the popular song "Shake It" by Metro Station for my Algebra I students. The new words describe the process of graphing lines and linear inequalities. My singing voice leaves a lot to be desired, but the math content is solid and the kids thought it was hilarious!
The students had a BLAST making the music video. Please check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eiwi3FvQumU
Feel free to pass it around as much as you like!
This is a bundle of 9 student activities for Geometer's Sketchpad. The instructions go over EXACTLY what to do and have step-by-step illustrations. I created these activites because all of the other Sketchpad projects I found assumed that the students were already competent with the program. These instructions do not assume prior knowledge.
Each one can be completed in around a half hour or so. My Geometry students loved the time we spent working in the computer lab on Geometer's Sketchpa
