Colour by Number & Range - Remembrance Day Poppy, Math Mosaic (5 Versions!)

Created by

Help students Remember this November as they collaboratively colour their sections of the class mosaic, then piece together their work to reveal the large mosaic image. Students gain practice placing numbers within an interval given using inequality symbols. The lower bound is inclusive while the upper bound is exclusive. Five versions are included in this bundle:• Number (basic colour-by-number style, positive values under 100) • Positive Number Ranges (positive range assigned to each colour)

Four in a Row, Roll 'n Round - 2 Player Dice Game for Google Slides

This fun and challenging two-player game works in Google Slides with digital dice. It is a great way to do something interactive with your class despite distance learning! Students can reset the game and play multiple times. You could use this as a scheduled whole-class activity, or have students continue a game over a longer period of time. Watch the preview video and see the product preview to get a clear idea of how this game works. This activity pairs very nicely with my Group Work File

Round to the Half Dollar, Collaborative Mosaic (20 Sections)

This is a collaborative rounding frenzy! Housed in a single page of a Google Sheet, this mosaic is slightly different than my typical digital mosaics where each student works on a separate tab. With 560 squares split into 20 sections (which you may opt to ignore and just have students work anywhere!) there is plenty of practice to be had rounding money amounts to the nearest $0.50 increment. The squares will auto-color based on the inputted answer. If the color doesn't look right, students

Experience

I've been a high school math educator since 2008, teaching all grades 9 through 12, and all levels from university and college bound to essentials/workplace to special needs learners. My products and ideas have been gilded by the frontlines of my own classroom experience. I'm always looking for an innovative way to teach the subject I love!

Teaching style

Whenever possible, math should be driven by engaging problems that pull students into the concepts and skills I seek to teach. 'Fruitfully frustrated' is a good place to be :) I enjoy writing and performing math raps (youtube CalfordMath), integrating Geometer's Sketchpad to bring dynamic understanding, gamifying learning (see my product 'Algebra Tile Factris'), and generally pushing creative limits to make math concepts accessible to my students. I am aware of students' math stigmas and horror stories. I try to build on their natural math intuitions, sidestepping their perceived inability to 'do math' because they never won a class game of around-the-world with multiplication flash cards in grade 4.

My own education history

Concurrent BSc (honours mathematics) / BEd (intermediate/senior) from Brock University, 2008 Honour Specialist in Mathematics from Queen's University, 2012 Additional Qualification in Computer Studies, 2023

Additional biographical information

I'm an avid recreational chess player. I enjoy music, skateboarding, longboarding, rapping, programming (see my product 'Algebra Tile Factirs' for a computer game example, or my 'Colouring by...' products for an automated worksheet product), and doing math for fun (total geek).
