On Topic or Off Topic

This activity can be used to work on social skills such as topic maintenance. Read each conversation and decide if the speaker was ON topic of OFF topic with their questions or comments. Take the activity one step further with correcting the conversation or even role playing!

Autism "What is it? What do you do with it?"

These cards are used to work on naming objects and their functions. Ask the child, "What is it?" "What do you do with it?" Also, when they get the answer correct, it is best to use a reinforcement schedule, token economy, etc. Provided is an "Angry Birds" token economy to laminate and use. I have used these with Velcro and put them on either cardstock or a file folder.

Speech Mad Libs

This works really well for older articulation students, and they love it! I have been using regular Mad Libs and having them choose words with their sound in it to fill in the blanks. But, I thought making a speech Mad Lib game would be fun too, and more relatable for them! Have them pick words to fill in the blanks that have their sound in it. You can also use this as a way to indirectly work on things like verbs, adjectives, adverbs, etc. for articulation/langauge kiddos! Have fun!

S Blends Activity for SLPs

I came up with this game for a group I have at my school working on s-blends. They are Kindergarten age and I loved incorporating print awareness, letter knowledge, and phonemic awareness in the activity. I made strips and attached magnets to use on a magnet board. You can laminate the strips so the kids can use dry erase markers to write in the missing letter. For example, put a strip on the magnet board and point to the picture. Ask the child "What is this a picture of?" If they say it incorre

Christmas Conversation

This activity was created for my social group (primary and high school levels). I placed the cards (once I cut them into strips) in a gingerbread house box that I bought from the Dollar Store. The students picked a card from the box and asked and answered each others questions while working on eye contact, initiating topic, maintaining topic, personal space, etc. The other way I used this activity was for articulation/language. I used the questions with the gingerbread house along with the game

Common Core State Standard Language&Literacy Lesson

I developed this language and literacy lesson to align with CCSS for Kindergarten. These CCSS are ones that speech-language pathologists can easily target. These targets include print concepts, vocabulary, compare and contrast, categorization, etc. This is a lesson based on The Snowy Day. The lesson contains two language based activities and a phonological activity. This lesson was designed for a large group. The category activity is also included!

Self-Monitor Articulation Sheet

I made this sheet for a 2nd grade student to facilitate carry-over of articulation skills from the therapy room to other environments throughout the school. It is very simple and requires students to think about what they are saying and how they are saying it. It requires students to decide if what they said was right or wrong and then fix the error. I am having my student try this during reading at first, then in small conversations.

Speech and Language Therapy Competitions!

Here are just a few competitions you can have in your speech and language therapy room! This idea started when my school was collecting Box Tops for Education. I wanted the kids to be able to earn Box Tops for their grade, so I started the competition. The competition was divided K-2 and 3-5. Each competition was worth so many Box Tops, you can decide. Or, it can be worth so many of whatever! It just shakes things up a little and makes things fun during therapy!

Articulation and Language Flowers

This is a very simple word document where I created flower centers and petals using shapes. My idea for this activity was to have the students cut and paste the pieces of the flower. In the center of the flower, students can put the sound or language concept they are working on. Then, they can put words that have their sound or other items (i.e. verbs, pronouns, etc.) on the petals.

Literacy and Phonology Activity for SLPs

This activity was created for my Pre-K, K, and 1st graders. I enjoy incorporating literacy into my therapy sessions! This activity is great for skills such as phonological awareness, letter knowledge, print referencing, final consonants, stopping, blends, fronting, CVC words, and more! The kids have loved the story and it grabs the groups attention. Try it and have fun!

I love using recipes in therapy! It is a great way to work on language skills, but it can also be targeted for speech as well. This is also a great activity for younger to older kids. They all love it! This specific activity was developed to send home during Spring Break, but it can also be used in therapy. Have fun with it!

Articulation Word Searches

I use word searches with my older articulation students, but I have found that my younger kiddos like it too! I have used the link below to generate words targeting /k/, /g/, /s/, /s-blends/, /r/, and /er/. This is easy and fast to do! It is a great way to keep other students busy while you work with another student in the group! They can also take it home and practice for homework! http://tools.atozteacherstuff.com/word-search-maker/

Autism "What is it? What do you do with it?"

Here is a set of 10 pictures to use for WH questions answering name and function. With this set of cards, show the child the picture and first ask, "What is it?" then "What do you do with it?" When working with a child with autism, it is also best to sometimes have some sort of token economy or reinforcement schedule of some sort to use with these cards. There is a sheet of token economy pictures provided. I laminate the tokens and place Velcro on the back. You can Velcro cardstock paper, or use

For example, purple popsicle sticks are something funny to do while saying a word. Use your own word lists for targets during the game. You can also attach a point value to each color to make it more fun my keeping score!
