Preparing for an IEP report or any other evaluation report can be quite stressful and incredibly time consuming. Although I can’t make it easier for you – trust me I wish I could :), I can at least provide you with a little bit of help when having to ask for parent input! In my first few years of teaching, I realized that asking for input from my students’ parents/guardians was at times difficult. Sometimes I would get too much information, and other times I wouldn’t get enough at all. I crea

***UPDATED 9/6/2018***A COMPLETELY EDITABLE PowerPoint file is now included. I’m approaching my 12th year of teaching this upcoming, 2018-2019 school year. I’ve planned a lot of lessons, in both the pull-out and inclusion settings - in grades K-12 learning support and emotional support. Some days a lesson I planned for didn’t get covered – or even started. Some weeks my plans look liked the week’s before. BUT – that’s special education. We adapt our plans not only daily, but sometimes by the

*HUGE UPDATE: May 2nd, 2019*I'm not quite convinced that many high school students know exactly what they want to do after high school graduation, let alone students of the middle school age. Gathering IEP transition information for a student just turning 14, or even of actual transition age, can be difficult. Luckily, this survey helps with just that! This Student Transition Input Questionnaire is an IEP transition survey - for students of transition age. It is an informal survey/input questi

I’m on my 12th year teaching this 2018-2019 school year, and on my 8th year as a special education co-teacher. I’ve planned a lot of lessons, in both the pull-out and inclusion settings - in grades K-12 learning support and emotional support. As a special education co-teacher planning was always a little different. I needed to plan with the general education teacher. I needed to decide who would be responsible for what, as well as what I had to prepare and bring to the class. The general edu

Once students turn 14 they are invited to their IEP meeting and take on more of an active/vocal role. They also start planning for their life after high school - otherwise known as transition. However, when I was an elementary learning support teacher, I felt like my students should have a voice in their IEP planning process, as well as start thinking about what they want to do/become when they are older. Yes, I did this even with third graders. Since my time as a learning support elementary t

UPDATED 8/30/2020: Now includes editable options in PowerPointOn any given day I can have several students sent to my learning support classroom (the resource room), to complete a test, homework they've missed, a project that needs worked on, notes from the day before, etc, from their regular education class. I can be helping a few different grades, in a few different subject areas, at once. It can be pretty overwhelming. I created my 'Resource Room Check-In' to help me with just that! 'Resour

For years I have been writing accommodations that I have made, or the general education teacher has made, on assessments, projects, and other graded assignments. I write very small on the back of the assignment, so that the other students wouldn't be able to read/see it when the assignments were handed back to the students. I like this method of documenting what I accommodate and the parents love it as well. I've come to the realization over the years that students - yes, even high school stud

It has taken me awhile, but I have FINALLY created IEP progress monitoring binders in hopes to help special education teachers stay better organized during the end of each school day, week, trimester, or quarter, while completing students’ data collecting. Perfect for IEP goals and objectives tracking. In each binder there are teacher recording sheets for each goal being monitored daily, weekly, by trimester, and by quarter, AND I have also added graphs that allow students to keep track of their

HUGE UPDATE: JULY 9TH, 2020I have definitely enjoyed being a co-teacher in an inclusion classroom for over ten years! I LOVE seeing my students achieve their goals, while in the regular classroom setting. Co-teaching has so many perks, however I felt the stress of not being in my classroom and not having everything I needed at my reach. There are also times where I am responsible for students on another special education teacher's caseload, which causes a bit of stress because I do not know tho

Having to transition (rather quickly) to teaching remotely has had me feeling unorganized. I do not have all of my binders and important information sheets with me, while I am at home, as I plan for IEP meetings and data collect at home. Instead of re-printing everything, I decided to turn my Progress Monitoring Data Collection Sheets into an interactive PDF file, that I can use on my iPad. This has been saving me from re-printing everything, as well as having to create an entirely new filing

I'm doing it all with the help of these these simple templates. The templates allow for me to stay on track, and even stay organized on those "off days," where I'll probably
