***UPDATED 9/6/2018***A COMPLETELY EDITABLE PowerPoint file is now included. I’m approaching my 12th year of teaching this upcoming, 2018-2019 school year. I’ve planned a lot of lessons, in both the pull-out and inclusion settings - in grades K-12 learning support and emotional support. Some days a lesson I planned for didn’t get covered – or even started. Some weeks my plans look liked the week’s before. BUT – that’s special education. We adapt our plans not only daily, but sometimes by the

I’m on my 12th year teaching this 2018-2019 school year, and on my 8th year as a special education co-teacher. I’ve planned a lot of lessons, in both the pull-out and inclusion settings - in grades K-12 learning support and emotional support. As a special education co-teacher planning was always a little different. I needed to plan with the general education teacher. I needed to decide who would be responsible for what, as well as what I had to prepare and bring to the class. The general edu

Once students turn 14 they are invited to their IEP meeting and take on more of an active/vocal role. They also start planning for their life after high school - otherwise known as transition. However, when I was an elementary learning support teacher, I felt like my students should have a voice in their IEP planning process, as well as start thinking about what they want to do/become when they are older. Yes, I did this even with third graders. Since my time as a learning support elementary t

Editable IEP Progress Monitoring Binder (Sweet Mint) | Special Education

It has taken me awhile, but I have FINALLY created IEP progress monitoring binders in hopes to help special education teachers stay better organized during the end of each school day, week, trimester, or quarter, while completing students’ data collecting. Perfect for IEP goals and objectives tracking. In each binder there are teacher recording sheets for each goal being monitored daily, weekly, by trimester, and by quarter, AND I have also added graphs that allow students to keep track of their

Planning for an entire unit in a special education classroom sounds crazy, right?! Our plans don't always go as planned by each week, let alone for an entire unit. It's not possible... or so I thought. This year I've began planning units/lessons in advance as a special education teacher! I can't tell you how good it feels. I'm doing it all with the help of these these simple templates. The templates allow for me to stay on track, and even stay organized on those "off days," where I'll probably

Inclusion Teacher Binder (Modern Farmhouse) | For Co-Teaching Special Education

I have definitely enjoyed being a co-teacher in an inclusion classroom for five+ years! I LOVE seeing my students achieve their goals, while in the regular classroom setting. Co-teaching has so many perks, however I felt the stress of not being in my classroom and not having everything I needed at my reach. There are also times where I am responsible for students on another special education teacher's caseload, which causes a bit of stress because I do not know those students quite as well as m

A Brief Look Into Your Student's IEP | Elementary Special Education Resource

I complete this form for each student and attach it to their IEP accommodation page(s), printed straight from their IEPs. This way the regular education

IEP Weekly Progress Monitoring | Charting & Graphing in Excel (Editable)

I had originally created these charts/graphs on Excel nearly 7 years ago, for the special education staff in my district. We used these, as well as typed progress reports, to send home quarterly - keeping the parent/guardian aware of their child's progress towards the current IEP goal(s). You will be receiving this as a Microsoft Excel document only. » The sheets in Excel were designed to monitor progress for: ⇢ 9 Weeks ⇢ 12 Weeks » Each sheet is editable - allowing you to input your own infor

My students are made aware of our school district's policies at the beginning of the year. They know the rules, and they also know the consequences. Like other teachers, I have my own set classroom rules, but this year I decided to make and implement my own set of classroom contracts. Classroom Contracts are designed to really re-inforce policies I have for my classroom, and to help me improve my classroom management. My Classroom Contracts even have the option of giving my students a voice.

Let Me Introduce Myself! - Get to know your gifted student

Regular education teachers are always getting forms and documents about their students with special needs, but they don't always get the same forms about their gifted/talented students they have on their roster. These students also have goals and needs that need to be met within the classroom. This is where "Let Me Introduce Myself" steps in! This information packet was designed to give your gifted student a chance to introduce themselves to their teacher(s). Students are able to talk about

Along with delivering the regular education teacher an official invitation to the meeting, I also like to add a sticky note to it - for them to put on their desk calendar or in their planner!
