ionic compound naming and formulas pixel art - distance learning

Created by

Google sheets reveal pixel art. Students write names and formulas of ionic compounds including transition metals and polyatomic ions to reveal a picture. As they correctly answer the questions, a picture is revealed. I have included subscripts for the students to copy and paste into the formulas, however, the picture will show up using normal numbers. The answer squares also turn green so the students know their answers are correct. Great for distance learning!! My students LOVE these!!

Google sheets reveal pixel art. Students balance 15 chemical equations and classify types of reactions to reveal a picture. As they correctly answer the questions, a picture is revealed. The coefficients should be separated by a comma and no spaces. For the types of reactions they are S, D, C, SR and DR. The answer squares also turn green so the students know their answers are correct. Great for distance learning!! My students LOVE these!!

I LOVE this lab!! It is such a practical application of chemistry. The lotion doesn't always come out the best but my students LOVE it and never forget it!! Plus every year my new students come into class and ask "are we going to make lotion and chapstick??" This can be done as an inquiry lesson (which would mean closer to an hour and a half) or it can be done as a regular density/emulsion lesson. It does require some extra preparation because the ingredients need to be ordered from bulk apot

Google sheets reveal pixel art. Students predict the products, balance equations, and classify types of reactions on 10 different problems. As they correctly answer the questions, a picture is revealed. The products and the coefficients are separate and turn green when the students are correct. This is a perfect way for providing immediate feedback!! The types of reactions are abbreviated and are S, D, C, SR and DR. Also, They will need to put in the 1s as coefficients. Great for distance learni

percent composition lab - making chapstick

This is one of my FAVORITE labs!!!! (and the students) They use percent composition to calculate how much of each ingredient is needed to make a chapstick that is moisturizing, a good consistency, and smells good. However, this lab does require planning ahead, as the ingredients are ordered from bulk apothecary. My students come back year after year and ask if they can get more chapstick, as I often hoard the extras!! I have included the actual calculations for groups of 3 or 4. I set up one

Google sheets reveal pixel art. Students must determine the number of significant figures and perform calculations with the correct sig figs to reveal a picture. The calculations include addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. As they correctly answer the problems, a picture is revealed. The answer squares also turn green so the students know their calculations are correct. Great for distance learning!! My students LOVE these!!!

Google sheets reveal pixel art. Students solve 15 conversions to and from scientific notation to reveal a picture. As they correctly answer the problems, a picture is revealed. The answer squares also turn green so the students know their answers are correct. I have included superscripts for the students to copy and paste into the formulas, however, the picture will show up using normal numbers. (except the negative sign) Great for distance learning!! This worksheet is mole conversions including grams and molecules. I have included the answers at the bottom of the worksheet. I began doing this several years ago because it allowed my students to know whether or not they were doing the problems correctly. I know in chemistry that can be a struggle. I did not want my students going home and "googling" chemistry, so I found a way to provide them with immediate feedback. The immediate feedback also makes this great for DISTANCE LEARNING!!! Tea

My students have struggled every year with the concept of predicting the products of a chemical reaction. I finally had an idea that "clicked" for most of my students. I have color coded the cations and anions within this worksheet in order to show my visual learners which elements should replace which and whose charges need to be crisscrossed. I was happy to see so many of my students have "lightbulb" moments while we worked through this worksheet.
