About the store
I am a middle-high school teacher and former library/media specialist in my fourth year of teaching. Previously teaching middle school reading intervention, I was always looking for something to make the lessons more interesting to my students and often had to adapt or create my own. Most of what you will find here are activities that I used with my students (most if not all being reluctant readers) to engage them and make reading and writing fun.

This unit comes with articles, resources, and activities using banned or challenged children’

Fairy Tale Unit

This 3-4 week unit is designed using the fairy tale genre to teach students about the genre, have them practice reading comprehension, give them a chance to review story elements and figurative language, and have them write narratives. Each week of the unit is dedicated to a different fairy tale (Twelve Dancing Princesses, Sleeping Beauty, Rumpelstiltskin) and students will read three different variations of the same story. The first version students read each week is the Grimm Brothers’ story s

The sonnet asks students to practice writing Shakespearean sonnets and then to pick one of their sonnets to be graded as a sonnet while the others were participation. I did this before reading while introducing Shakespeare. The debate asks students who they believe is responsible for Mercutio's death independently of the fact that Tybalt struck him with a sword. Poetry Unit (Themed Around Poetry Month)

This is the unit I use with my 8th graders to review poetry during Poetry Month! Often times I pair it with a viewing of Dead Poet Society and we talk about how poetry makes people feel but that's not included in this unit. Everything is in Google Drive so it will be a doc with all the links to all the materials and slides for you to add to your drive so everything can be tailored.

Classic Poetry Mini Unit

This project based mini unit has students identify which classic poet they would most enjoy then working either in groups or independently gathering background on that poet and analyzing one of their most famous poems (options provided). I did this in my classroom over a two week stretch with the goal of teaching students how to read poetry the way poets intended for it to be read - for pleasure and with feeling. Overall feedback from students was positive and I've noticed that they better unde

Book in Verse Project

This is an independent reading project that I paired with my Classic Poetry Mini Unit however it can very easily be a stand alone or addition to any poetry units you already teach. The idea is to have students engage with long-form, modern poetry by reading a book in verse. They then needed to give a presentation about why the author chose to tell this story through poetry/verse rather than traditional prose and what they understood the pros and cons of storytelling through verse are.

Taylor Inspired High School Classroom Rules Posters

While I love the trend of Taylor Swift themed rules it was hard to find any suitable for high schoolers. So I made some using some popular and my personal favorite songs. These six rules are the foundation of my classroom for the coming year and years to come!
