Moon Observation Journal
Students observe the moon each night for one month (to ensure they see each moon phase) and record the date, time, and moon illustration. I have them leave the moon phase area blank. When we are done with the month of observations, we go back and fill in the moon phases and confirm the pattern(s) we learned in class together.

Standardized Testing Brain Boosting Morning Work
Have you ever asked yourself, how am I going to start my students day on the mornings of standardized testing? In my classroom, I like to give a creative morning work on each morning of our standardized tests!! These eight scribble pages (for up to 8 days of testing) allow the students to create a picture from a basic shape or line that has been drawn for them. This helps to stimulate their thinking and helps the students relax before they are tested.

Teaching style
The cultivation of young minds is one of the most challenging tasks that any teacher can and will experience. I feel it is important to stress that all students can learn. Not every student will be on the same level and that is why it is essential to recognize each student’s individual strengths, as well as their individual weaknesses. Differentiated instruction and cooperative learning should be used to best meet the needs of each student. Regardless of these defined levels, high expectations must be clearly articulated, rather than simply promoting minimum standards. I believe that if I expect more out of my students, then they can, and will achieve more.
