I have taught Kindergarten as well as 1st Grade in rural and urban Title 1 schools. I teach a large population of ESL students. Although I have taught 1st and loved it, Kindergarten is my favorite because they make so much growth...and it's the most fun :)
I was named the 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year for my school. Within my district, I lead monthly professional development on teaching mathematics in Kindergarten. I have also led professional development on Guided Reading in Kindergarten and vocabulary instructional strategies.

I created this pack out of the desire to have a simple pack of items that I could use with my Kindergarten students to reinforce the letters and their sounds. I used this pack with my students last year, and had a lot of success with it. I gave the pack an update to make it user-friendly and with new clip art.
Inside you will find (for each letter of the alphabet)

Although this packet could be used for any nursery rhyme unit (it has 14 classics), I used it in my classroom to go along with the first Kindergarten CKLA Knowledge Domain 1: Nursery Rhymes and Fables. I had my students illustrate one of the nursery rhymes each day, and then at the end of the unit, they made a cover page. I bound them all and sent them home with the students to read with their families. My own son made one in his Kindergarten class, and I plan to save it forever! There are two

This product was created to challenge my Kindergarten students to compose 2-dimensional shapes using pattern blocks. These are a set of 25 task cards. Each task card shows a shape on a construction sign and a toolbox with a number and pattern blocks. Students construct the shape on the construction sign using the given number and type of pattern blocks designated in the toolbox area. To assemble, simply print, cut, and laminate. Just add pattern blocks for a quick geometry center!
Students learn so much knowledge in CKLA, and I like to use note takers as a summarizing strategy to help the important knowledge stick. I created these note takers as supplemental activity sheets to the lesson to highlight key details from the text that support overall understanding of the unit. I also included the word from the word work portion each day. These notetakers help my students retain knowledge for the end of unit assessments. I take all of their notes and the coloring page, bind th

After constantly reminding students of the same conventions in their writing, I decided to create a visual rubric for my students to use.
These posters come in two colorful formats, traditional and neon, so that they will match and classroom decorations already in your classroom.
I suggest introducing one piece of the rubric at a time during a mini-lesson until all pieces have been explicitly taught. Students are then ready for their own rubric to use during writing. There is a horizontal and

I grew frustrated after hunting for retell activities for classic stories that only had a few pictures for beginning, middle, and end. I created this pack to use in my own classroom as a retell activity for my listening center. The students listen to the story and glue the pictures back in order...or there is an option for them to write about each part. This gives me a quick assessment of their reading comprehension as well as upping the rigor of my listening center.

I grew really frustrated in my search of fire safety products that actually teach the nonfiction aspects of fire safety for kindergarten. These three little cut and glue freebies include labeling a fire truck, labeling a firefighter, and sorting household items that are safe/not safe to touch (safe: telephone, flashlight, mitten; not safe: pan, kettle, fire).
Enjoy!

I love to make practicing math skills more engaging for students through the use of games and stations. I also like to keep students accountable through recording sheets. Finding math stations and recording sheets to cover new skills each month can be overwhelming, so I decided to create this packet of games for my classroom for the month of January.
In this packet, you will find 16 math stations that cover counting, data, measurement, 2-d shapes, and much more! Almost every station comes with

Hi! This product is one that I created and used in my Kindergarten classroom for my sight word / word work center. I needed a way to differentiate my center without teaching multiple games and activities, and I needed a way to organize it so the kids knew what they could use. I decided to create various activities using my list of 40 words and color code them, and this product is the end result of that thinking!
*Please note: these are all blackline masters. If you choose to set up the center t

This is a simple, independent game for Kindergarten/First Grade students. You have to make a dice with the 6 sight words written one word per side. The students roll the dice, read the word the dice lands on, locate the word, and color it in. When the students are finished coloring in the kites, they can write a sentence using one or two of the words.
I made this game a Word Document so that you can edit it to fit your sight word needs. You can also re-arrange the words so that the same words a

Teaching style
I believe that a classroom should be noisy and fun-we talk, sing, and dance our way through the curriculum! My daily instruction revolves around a balance of whole-group/small-group instruction, as well as some workshop time.
