Constructing Math Sense

This is a gradual release, scaffolded set of worksheets for students. Students learn and practice the steps needed to be able to compare unlike fractions and mixed numbers. Students find the Least Common Multiple (LCM), convert unlike fractions to equivalent like fractions, and place the fractions in order. The first problem does most of the steps. This is a computer activity on a WORD document for students to learn to subtract fractions and mixed numbers with and without regrouping and renaming. Students will use virtual manipulatives and the subtraction algorithm to learn how and why the steps involved in calculating with the algorithm lead to a difference. The activities are chunked, scaffolded, and use gradual release methods to help students acquire the skills.
