Creativity Seekers

A April SIOP unit includes engaging lessons with research based strategies in which students focus on family structure, the four seasons, spring images and learn a spring song, investigate flowers (includes math), symmetry 1 and symmetry 2, visit a nursing home, and give a presentation to the nursing home through songs and gift giving. Pk - 1st: 48 Reading/ Language Arts classroom lessons/ activities connected to 12 books written by Ruth Kraus. As a part of an author study, students learn vocabulary and phonemic awareness, engage in hands on and writing activities that help students make personal and real life connections with stories and promote interaction with classmates and incite creativity.

Shared Reading: Before, during, and after reading Grandfather's Journey by Allan Say, students will answer questions that are engaging and promote discussion. Students will participate in activities that help them make text-self connections.
