I created this three-part budgeting activity for my Practical Math class. I went online and found a weekly advertisement for a local grocery store and used that for this assignment. However, if you have access to newspapers at your school, you could use any weekly ad from a grocery store for this activity.
The first of the assignments is a basic introduction to the activity, they must look through the advertisement and can pick ANYTHING they want to eat for dinner. In this first assignment,
This document is a list of comprehension questions varying from 8-20 questions of all the chapters from the first book of the Hunger Games trilogy. Included with this is the answer key.
There are over 200 questions AND answers included in this document.
This activity is to be used after you introduce how to write checks. It is a worksheet that starts with the students receiving $500 and throughout the worksheet they have the choice of buying certain items. They must subtract each check from their balance. At the end of the worksheet there are two "check layout" questions asking the students to answer what information goes in certain spots on the check.
There is no answer key provided because students can choose different options throughou
This can be used as a summative assessment or final project for The Giver. This project requires students to put on the shoes of a member of the community and create a Brochure advertising the community. Students are asked to recall rules, assignments, and other specifics about the community as well as using their own creativity to create this brochure.
Attached is a rubric as well as an example brochure.
This activity DOES NOT include the text of "The Monkey's Paw."
This activity was made to be done after completion of the short story "The Monkey's Paw." Students are asked to use an "8 1/2 x 11" size piece of paper, and create a colorful warning label that would deter anyone from ever using the Paw if they crossed paths with it. By completing this assignment, students will show their creativity and also show their comprehension of the story since most of the warnings are taken from events fro
This activity can be used when talking about the George Washington and the first Cabinet. This asks students to find the three pieces of information for each member of the Cabinet. These pieces of information are: the name of each position, a description of each position, and the name of the person who was in Washington's Cabinet.
This assignment includes two recipes for desserts. The original recipe is listed on the worksheet, and the assignment is that the students need to make more than they originally thought. They must go through and, using their skills of adding and multiplying fractions, create new larger recipes. There are two columns on this assignment for each recipe. One column is for the recipe to be doubled and the other column is for the recipe to be made 4 times bigger.
This activity can be used for any Character analysis work. This specific example is about creating a Vertical Name Poem for the two main characters in "The Gift of the Magi," Della and James. To set up this poem students must write either name vertically down the side of their paper. They must write a sentence or a word (depending on academic level) that starts with one of the letters of their name. This is difficult to explain, which is why I provided an example on the worksheet. The poem
This activity can be assigned either half way through the play or at the conclusion of the play. Students will be graded based on their creative writing skills, their creativity making a newspaper layout, and their reading comprehension based upon their ability to write accurate newspaper articles.
This assignment can be used in two ways. The first way is that it could be used as guided notes during a lecture. By using this activity you can ensure that when your students are taking notes on the Navigation Acts, they are taking down the correct information. This will also help when it comes to reviewing for assessments.
The second way you could use this activity would be using it as a review sheet. For example, if you lecture on a Monday about the Navigations Acts, you can assign this
This activity asks students to research the specific events leading up to and that happened during the Boston Tea Party. This can be assigned as an individual assignment or as a small group activity.
This activity can be used when talking about the George Washington and the first Cabinet. This asks students to find the three pieces of information for each member of the Cabinet. These pieces of information are: the name of each position, a description of each position, and the name of the person who was in Washington's Cabinet.
This worksheet was made to be used as a pre-reading activity to the short story "The Two Brothers" by Leo Tolstoy. This activity includes the 4 proverbs that the elder and younger brother use when determining if they are going to embark on the adventure to find happiness.
In this activity, the students are asked to write down what they think each of the proverbs means, and then they are asked to research each proverb. This can be done in partners or individually.
This Math activity will not only reinforce the process of Mean, Median, Mode and Range, but it will also get your students out of their seats and talking to their classmates.
Pass out one worksheet per student and have them interview their classmates until their entire worksheet is filled out, at that point they can return to their seat and complete the worksheet by using their interview answers as their data sets.
The Cactus by O'Henry has difficult vocabulary. Here is a worksheet with 10 difficult words from the text. This can be used a pre-reading activity which will improve comprehension of the story.
