Pascal's Triangle/Fibonacci Sequence Math Art Project

This is a great activity for a fun/artistic day in math to help connect students to math in new ways! It also works as a great sub activity. All you need are these instructions and some construction paper for students to use to make the circles (compasses may also assist for drawing and measuring circles). This a such a fun activity to see students' creative sides come out. This listing was updated to include an answer key with the diameter and radius circle measures for all 8 circles, as well

Love Squared: Exponent Rules Valentines Day Scavenger Hunt

Looking for a fun Valentine's Day activity to get your mathematicians moving? This activity is an exponent rules scavenger hunt. There are 30 exponent rules are conversation hearts. Cut them out and hide them around the room. As students find them, they solve them on their work page, then check their answer with you. For every correct answer, teams of 2-3 will get a point. The team with the most points wins! This downloadable file is 9 pages. It includes: 1 student instruction page5 pages of hea

Polynomial Graph Exploration Activity

I use this activity as an introduction to our Polynomial Functions unit. Students graph different functions in Desmos, then answer questions about patterns they observe and make predictions about other functions based on these patterns. I grade this for completion, as they haven't been taught key features yet, but this could easily be adapted as a review or assessment of key features of polynomials.

Retirement Simulation

Many retirement resources help students learn strategies to save for retirement, but not many show students what it’s like to live off retirement income. In fact, many adults do not have a grasp of this concept. I created this Retirement Simulation to help students see what it’s like to live off retirement savings. This activity can be done in groups or individually. For this instruction sheet, I have written down instructions based on each student working individually and receiving their own c

Graphing Rational Functions Notes

Attached you will find a graphic organizer version of notes for graphing rational functions, along with step by step graphing. The notes cover simplifying rational functions, finding the vertical asymptote and holes, finding the horizontal asymptote, finding the x-intercept, finding the y-intercept, and graphing, including finding additional points on the graph to help graph the function.

Polygon Angle and Diagonal Exploration Activity

In this activity, students will investigate the relationship between the number of sides of polygons and their interior angles, exterior angles, and diagonals. This allows students to discover the patterns on their own and understand why they work, rather than just memorizing formulas. Materials needed: protractors

Quadrilateral Classification Card Sort

Looking for a good way to help your students keep all the properties of quadrilaterals straight? Or a hands on activity that will give you a break from notes? In this activity, students will cut out different properties about the angles, diagonals, and sides of kites, isosceles trapezoids, parallelograms, rectangles, rhombuses and square. After cutting, they will arrange them on papers for each shape that can be turned in for a comprehension check, or added to their notes as a visual reminder.

Personal Polynomial Project

In this project, students will use their personal information to create three different polynomial equations that relate to them. They will then print the graphs and color in different sections to express their personality. This is a good review of key features of polynomial equations in a format that encourages creativity and expression. A rubric is included with instructions and examples.
