Distant Science Learning

Using google slides, students will create a timeline of the major scientists who contributed to the cell theory. In addition to the activity slide, I have also included all notes that you can use to teach a lesson about the cell theory and the scientists. The scientists included in this lesson are Rudolph Virchow, Robert Hooke, Matthias Schleiden, Anton Van Leeuwenhoek, Theodor Schwann, Zacharias Janssen, and Robert Brown.

This packet was used for our 8th grade students to practice the moon phases. In this activity, they had to define the moon phases, draw the phases, as well as identify moon phases and order them sequentially.

This life science unit covers the following topics: carbon cycle, nitrogen cycle, water cycle, abiotic and biotic factors, levels of organization, soil composition lab, food chains and food webs, energy pyramids, population size, population density, behavior, symbiosis, animal and plant responses, and adaptations. This lab will help students conceptualize that plants in the dark will go through cellular respiration and in the light, plants go through photosynthesis. For the plant, I would suggest going to Petsmart or another pet supply store that sells live, under-water plants. Post-lab questions are also included.

This unit covers the water cycle, carbon cycle, and nitrogen cycle as well as how energy flows through an ecosystem. We used this review before the unit test.

Students pick an animal of their choice and complete a research project. My students created a google slide show for their information, but students could also do a presentation or a poster.

Students will read an experiment and graph the data using a bar graph. Then, students will answer questions about the experiment including identifying the independent and dependent variables and analyzing the results of the experiment.

In this activity, I hung up all 12 experiments around my room. Students were given the first page of the document to record their answers on. Every two minutes, students rotated to the next station. Make sure you delete the answers off of the experiments before hanging them up around the room.

In this bundle, you will receive the entire notes packet for our earth's motion unit which includes rotation, revolution, orbits, and the seasons. In the PowerPoint, you will see 'do nows.' I print out one set for each student in my class, cut out each card, and place in a baggie. Students use this as a review to help them match up the domain or kingdom with its characteristics and examples.

We used this review game to help students review for their earth's motion test.

We use this lab during the first week of school to introduce students to the scientific method. Students observe what happens to gobstoppers when they are placed in water.

This PowerPoint is used on conjunction with my guided notes for the moon unit. This unit includes moon phases, eclipses, gravity, and tides.
