About the store
I have over 10 years teaching experience
I have taught in Years 1 – 6, Learning Support and Gifted Education
I have been an acting principal, Advisory Visiting Teacher and GIfted Education Mentor and Coordinator, University Presented in Gifted and Talented and LIteracy
I am trained to coordinator level in the global Reading Recovery Program, and... I LOVE being involved with children's positive learning
I am also a teacher (and mum) who is passionate about parents being aware of their child’s academic strengths and weaknesses and having the knowledge and resources to assist them, without the additional expense of outside help on a regular basis.
This is why I started DIY Tutor. Academic skills are taught in such a different way to when parents were at school. Nowadays, parents are often unable to assist their child in learning essential skills without tears and confusion. DIY Tutor is there to bridge this gap and work with parents to help them understand the skills needed now for lifelong school success and how to help their child at home, without the ongoing cost of tutoring.

The addition/subtraction grids are blank and set out in ones, ten, hundreds columns to make it easier and more motivating for your child/student to complete your sums because the process is easier when looked at one column at a time.

This system was one of the main points mentioned on my 'Teacher of the Year' nomination as the parents and students found it empowering, clear and eary to follow.
I have left it as a 'word' document so you can change the reward/consequence etc... to match your own classes decisions.

Texting Puzzles - Problem Solving with Mobile Phones
Have you ever watched a person text a message? Now imagine you can only see them pushing the buttons (eg. you cannot see the message on the screen) - can you work out what they are texting?
It can be more difficult than you think!
This set of posters also includes a blank copy for your students to write down their text message to you and/or their fellow students.
This activity is great for Gifted Students, Early Finishers and Learning Support Students the like!

Any Fiction Book - Individual or Group Comprehension Workbook / Rotation NO PREP
This activity book is designed to engage the student in reading a book they find interesting and using it as a platform to 'learn' and develop new skills.
All activities are set out VERY clearly (eg. read pages 2-4 and then complete the folowing activity / answer the following questions) and includes, vocabulary work, inference, prediction etc... all the skills good readers need to develop and practice.

Place Value - MAB - Number Creator
An important concept for children to understand is that a numeral can represent a different number depending on where it is placed.
For example,
7 ones = 7, however, 7 tens = 70.
In addition to this, students need to be confident in arranging numbers to suit the purpose - ie: if you have the numbers 1,2,3 - they can represent a whole range of numbers (123, 231, 312 etc...).
The focus of this activity to consolidate this understanding and reinforce the notion that 7 tens = 70 etc....

Place Value Target Number Game - Reinforce Value of Ones, Tens and Hundreds
This is a magnificent game to reinforce place value concepts. Included in this package is a board you can laminate and use (and re-use) for tens and ones and a second board with ones, tens and hundreds, and instructions.
The idea of the game is to throw a set amount of counters onto the board and to work out what number you have made - the highest (or lowest if you prefer) number is the winner. This is a great educational tool because it reinforces that a single counter can represent 1, 10 or

Simply choose a number and write it in the box, display the poster in an obvious place and encourage your student/children to have a go!
I wonder if they can do all 5 challenges with the number of the day??!!
It is important for children to be able to 'play' with numbers. This visually exciting poster is just that.... a resource to promote 'playing' with numbers.
