I use this with my ESL students to give them some new vocabulary to describe people and objects. Here are some ways you can use it: After handing it out, ask them to describe someone (themselves, a friend or a character) with a few sentences (also using the vocabulary seen before, such as body parts, so they can do a physical description), and then same thing for an object. The more experienced students can also use comparative and superlative.Once they know them well, you can check their compreh

At the restaurant - Creating a menu

I used this very simple blank template to make my ESL students create their own menu. It's a great way to review the food vocabulary and progress to higher language about meals. There are four lines for each part of the meal and drinks, with a row on the right to add prices if you wish. You may use it afterward to calculate the price of a meal and work on numbers. Have fun with it!

Based on History.com, I wrote this summary of Valentine's day history with reading comprehension questions, and a few words translated into French for my ESL students. This Google Slides allows you to teach your students the vocabulary of the house in Spanish with the main rooms (dining room, living room, bedroom, bathroom, study, garden) and objects (chair, table, door, window, bed, shower, bath, etc...). Animations allow you to show the pictures without the vocabulary first. After each slide introducing new vocabulary, there is a slide with an exercise of translation from Spanish to the native language, so students can reuse the vocabulary. At the end, if yo

Earth, the Planet - Reading Comprehension

As an introduction to a unit about the environment, I had my ESL students work on this text describing Earth, based on the Earth page of Planets for Kids. I included some translations in French of the most difficult words. If French isn't what you need, you can easily remove them or change the translations when you photocopy the page, since it's at the end. The second page offers exercises to check their reading comprehension: matching numbers to their meanings, a true or false, some questions

Visit Los Angeles - Reading Comprehension

At the end of my last lesson about traveling, my students told me they would like to visit Los Angeles. Well, I heard them loud and clear, and I made this little reading exercise! First, if you use my previous lesson before this, I ask them a few preliminaries questions to make them use the vocabulary seen, for example: - How can you go to Los Angeles? (depending on where you live, they might have no other choices than plane, but how do they reach the airport first?) - What would you take in yo

To follow my introduction on a unit about Earth and the environment, I chose to talk about Earth Day and why this special day is necessary due to the current dangers to the environment that impact us as well. At the end, the introduction to what we can do with the 3R: Recycle, Reuse, Reduce, preludes the next activity on Green Habits. I included some translations in French of the most difficult words. If French isn't what you need, you can easily remove them or change the translations when y

Are your students back from vacation or soon to go on holiday? It's time for them to describe their plans, review the vocabulary, and train their writing expression! You may give them specific instructions (number of lines, tense, etc...) depending on their level. I like to make them complete the address and stamp as well, with some creativity if they feel like it.

This is the third activity in my unit about movies. See the one about the History of Hollywood and the one about Making a Movie. This contains a study of the movie " To all the boys I've loved before" based on the trailer, summary and reviews. The students give their opinion. The second part is a form for the students to try their hand at writing their own review of a movie or TV show of their choice. It can be used for both ESL students (in which case, I recommend it only for 7th grade and
