This is a Reading Response Journal for students as they read through Holes. Each section starts out with a few reading response questions, and the moves to grammar work, as students look to find the parts of speech, etc. within the text.

Science Experiment Summary

This is a form that's for when you do those quick, fun, easy science experiments in class. Every Thursday an aide comes in to do a science experiment with the kids, like a quick snapshot activity of a guideline they need to understand. I have them fill this out, simply to help them remember what they did, why it was important, etc. Also, go rent Dispicable Me. It's a great movie and the kids love the minions...

Basically, why not assign some extra credit and critical thinking while the kids go home and watch the show anyway? It's a basic story elements worksheet that's hooked to A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. Students watch the show, then fill out the characters (+ traits), the setting, the themes, the summary, etc.

This is for students to complete as you read through By the Great Horn Spoon. It is slightlier easier and less time consuming then some of my other journals. It contains reading comprehension questions for the start of the chapter, and then look and learn questions that involve grammar skills. It also has some science and more creative writing in it as well.

Please note: the contract portion of this handout must be downloaded individually. That is why this document is less than the other spelling contracts. This is the description for the weekly spelling homework that third graders need to complete. They can choose from 5,10, and 15 point activities for a total of 25 points each week.

This is a simple graphic organizer made out of text boxes that my 3rd grade students use to show their learning when watching one of his videos. You can access his videos on Netflix, or on youtube, and they're great for a time filler or when you need a way to teach a tougher concept. Students simply answer the following questions: Title of today's topic, 3 experiments he did, 4 things he wanted to teach us, and 3 crazy facts you learned". It's basically a way for Bill to get his point across

This is a great set of activities to do when the Thanksgiving Black Friday holiday is approaching. It includes math and writing and the current math is up to about 3rd grade. See the Winter Specials for higher dollar values. Students are asked to pretend to spend money, write story problems, create receipts, etc.

This product is a graphic organizer for budding story writers. It uses Calvin and Hobbes characters to help visual students lay out the steps of their story. It is meant for older grades, including items such as theme, setting, major/minor characters, character traits, introduction, problem, attempt to solve #1, fail, attempt to solve #2, success, and the resolution from the success. It's meant for students to list out what they plan to write about, rather than just setting them loose and cro

Inventions 5 paragraph essay

I use this essay at the start of the year with my 5th graders. It hits on the inventions/technology guidelines as well as writing guidelines. I give this syllabus to the students, let them choose an invention. They research it (and keep a bibliography on easybib.com) and then write what they believe to be a 5 paragraph essay, with NO help from their parents. Then, I use my "5 paragraph essay editing questionnaire" to help teach students how to write an essay. That way, they do it by practi

This is not a mega-assignment. The instructions are for a fun, at-home, project to do before halloweeen. There are no write ups, or assignments due with this project, but there are instructions on what to do and ideas to complete it. Please email me if you'd like the word format after the pdf is downloaded. I uploaded as a pdf in order to preserve the fonts.

Use this any time you read a book with your class and then watch the movie afterwards! A very easy way to compare and contrast, and let the kids enjoy a movie! This printable should be done on legal size paper. Have students complete the top half of the first page before you start the movie. They WILL need their books to fill this portion out. After you watch the movie, the students can rate different parts of the movie, discuss how characters were portrayed, rate the characters, and declare

Strategies for Multiplication

This is a homework sheet I created for students to use after I teach the four strategies of multiplication. Since Common Core is all about using different strategies, this homework asks that students use ALL four ways to complete the multiplication problem. These problems are from 2x2 to 2x4 digit multiplication (ie as small as 25 x 34 up to 24 x 2356). Students are required to use each strategy at least twice, and then may use the strategy of their choice for the remaining problems. This w

You know the old assignment, where you simply create a new character to be apart of the story or novel you're reading? Well, this is a graphic organizer to help kids collect their thoughts, draw what they imagine, describe the traits of the new character, and then tell the new version of the story (or chapter). I have found this to be extremely helpful with my 5th graders - they are able to create a character who is way more interesting and has many more dynamics then one created on a regular

I use this simple sheet to have kids draw portraits of the characters when we read books that have many characters to keep straight. They simply draw the character as the book describes and then write their names underneath. I usually have kids add "protagonist...supporting character" etc. if I feel it's necessary.

Experience

10 years and 2 summers. I've done both summers with Kindergarten readiness. 8 years with 5th and 2 years with 3rd.

Teaching style

I am a teacher who will give kids the road map, but they have to do the learning. I am big on group projects, individual projects, peer teaching, active learning, and 21st century learning is one of my specialties.

Awards & shining teacher moments

2010 Teacher of the Year Nominee, Nobel Learning Communities. Field Day Director (we've been on the news, and in the newspaper twice)

Additional biographical information

I love to create. I've taught for a long time, and I am still revamping things to make them more fun, and more interesting to the kids. I am very excited to be apart of this website, as we all know that teachers are HIGHLY underpaid for their time in the industry... All of my docs are in pdf format because I am a freak about great fonts. If you buy my product, but need it edited, please email me and I will email you the word doc (but it will come out with gerbally fonts that can easily be fixed).
