This is a Reading Response Journal for students as they read through Holes. Each section starts out with a few reading response questions, and the moves to grammar work, as students look to find the parts of speech, etc. within the text.

Science Experiment Summary
This is a form that's for when you do those quick, fun, easy science experiments in class. Every Thursday an aide comes in to do a science experiment with the kids, like a quick snapshot activity of a guideline they need to understand. I have them fill this out, simply to help them remember what they did, why it was important, etc. Also, go rent Dispicable Me. It's a great movie and the kids love the minions...

Hands On Spelling Activity Homework Contract -5th
This is a spelling contract primarily for 5th graders but can be modified for 4th-6th. There is a separate contract for 3rd grade. Students can choose from a variety of activities to practice their spelling words. They can pick from 5 point, 10 point, and 15 point activities, but must get a total of 25 points. Many of the activities are hands on ways to practice spelling.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Extra Credit Opportunity
Basically, why not assign some extra credit and critical thinking while the kids go home and watch the show anyway? It's a basic story elements worksheet that's hooked to A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. Students watch the show, then fill out the characters (+ traits), the setting, the themes, the summary, etc.

By The Great Horn Spoon Reading Response Questions
This is for students to complete as you read through By the Great Horn Spoon. It is slightlier easier and less time consuming then some of my other journals. It contains reading comprehension questions for the start of the chapter, and then look and learn questions that involve grammar skills. It also has some science and more creative writing in it as well.

BILL NYE SCIENCE EXPERIMENT GRAPHIC ORGANIZER
This is a simple graphic organizer made out of text boxes that my 3rd grade students use to show their learning when watching one of his videos. You can access his videos on Netflix, or on youtube, and they're great for a time filler or when you need a way to teach a tougher concept. Students simply answer the following questions: Title of today's topic, 3 experiments he did, 4 things he wanted to teach us, and 3 crazy facts you learned". It's basically a way for Bill to get his point across

Thanksgiving Black Friday extra credit activities
This is a great set of activities to do when the Thanksgiving Black Friday holiday is approaching. It includes math and writing and the current math is up to about 3rd grade. This product is a graphic organizer for budding story writers. It uses Calvin and Hobbes characters to help visual students lay out the steps of their story. I use this essay at the start of the year with my 5th graders. It hits on the inventions/technology guidelines as well as writing guidelines. I give this syllabus to the students, let them choose an invention. They research it (and keep a bibliography on easybib.com) and then write what they believe to be a 5 paragraph essay, with NO help from their parents. Book vs Movie Comparison
Use this any time you read a book with your class and then watch the movie afterwards! A very easy way to compare and contrast, and let the kids enjoy a movie! Strategies for Multiplication
This is a homework sheet I created for students to use after I teach the four strategies of multiplication. Since Common Core is all about using different strategies, this homework asks that students use ALL four ways to complete the multiplication problem. They simply draw the character as the book describes and then write their names underneath.

I love to create. I've taught for a long time, and I am still revamping things to make them more fun, and more interesting to the kids. I am very excited to be apart of this website, as we all know that teachers are HIGHLY underpaid for their time in the industry...
