This is a high frequency assessment that can be used informally as an activity or in test format. It is aligned with Scott Foresman Reading Series First Grade story "Frog and Toad Together" using the high frequency words: read, soon, few, how, afraid, again. Students are given a word bank and sentences and must write the word in the blank that best completes the sentence.

I used this when I tutored a 3rd grade student who was significantly behind in math to see what all concepts he had mastered from his second grade year. This is similar to what 2nd grade students were pre-assessed at the beginning of the year and then post-assessed at the end of the year in the classroom.
