Four-square activity is so versatile. My favorite way to use this was through vocabulary and writing - but, it can be used with ANY subject, the possibilities are endless!
I used this activity following a lesson on sense of smell. We discussed why smell is important and what kinds of things you can smell, and what kinds of things you cannot sense with smell. I had brought in several things for them to smell and guess what it is they were smelling. This activity lets them cut and paste the pictures and place into a T-Chart either under the nose for "can smell" or the "cannot smell" column. This is a great way to formally assess sense of smell in the primary gra

(poem provided with a picture) and circle them. This can be done individually, cooperatively in groups or pairs, or displayed on a Promethean Board or projector and done as a class. This aligns with the Scott Foresman 2nd grade story, "Anansi Goes Fishing," but this activity can stand on its own to teach adjectives, even if yo
This powerpoint takes the Houghton Mifflin Math Series Grade 1 Weeks 13-18 "Problems of the Day" presented at the beginning of each lesson and compiles them into one powerpoint file. This powerpoint contains 31 words problems with visuals and pictures. You can work them together as a class, or in groups/pairs. You can even print them out and have students complete in worksheet form. The word problems reinforce mathematical concepts such as: writing number sentences, addition, subtraction, f
This activity/assessment aligns with your weather lesson. Students are to observe the weather outside and sketch what type of cloud they see in the first space, what weather this cloud would bring in the second space, and what you should wear in this type of weather in the third space. Pictures are shown to help guide the students on how to draw what types of sketches are expected. Answer key is included (example of a cumulus cloud, sunny week - you would apply the appropriate weather to what
This powerpoint lesson teaches students to identify and write the names of special places, people and animals with capital letters and use special names of places, people, and animals in sentences. The presentation opens with a title page in which the teacher can point to the pictures and say, for example, "This is a dog. Do you have a dog? Dog is the name of the animal, but what is the special name that you have for him?" The next slide is a picture of Sponge Bob and a regular sponge, this l
This PDF file has 20 pages of Bingo Cards (1 card on each page) which are great for learning to tell time to the hour and half hour. They are predominantly used for telling time on an analog clock, but some cards have some digital times as well. They are used exactly like the game of bingo. The teacher calls out a time, and students mark on their cards (with an object if you choose to laminate and reuse, or crayon if you're disposing of them). It's a fun and interactive way of learning to te
This phonics activity reinforces students' ability to blend short -ea words. This can be displayed on an overhead (electronic or paper form) or printed out and done in centers. The file includes letter tiles so students can cut and paste if done on paper.

This activity/assessment reinforces the concept of classifying animals: farm, zoo, or pet. Students are given a picture of an animal and must write "F" for farm, "Z" for zoo, or "P" for pet to classify each animal.
If you would like a powerpoint lesson to go along with this assessment, check out my product, "Classifying Animals: Zoo, Farm or Pet" for a cute social living lesson.
This assessment is great to include as a formal assessment to any opposites lesson or presentation. Students must draw a line from each picture in the right column to its opposite in the left column. For early finishers, I had them draw 3 pictures of pairs of opposites on the back of the page.
This 5 question assessment will check for students' understanding of astrological concepts. This test consists of multiple choice, fill in the blank, and a "connect the dots" to make their own start constellation.
This powerpoint mini lesson teaches students rhyming words. Students are presented with 3 labeled pictures, and must identify which two are the ones that rhyme. It can be shown on the board and done as a class or printed out and put into a center or desk work.
This cut and paste activity is great for teaching students the concept of the number 7. It's ideal for teaching a class along with the story, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle (but not mandatory to do so). The students must cut 7 pieces of fruit and paste to the leaf for the caterpillar - one for every day of the week.
*This product is just the assessment itself, although I taught this with my Comprehensive Unit Plan (CUP): 7 Days of the Week - which is also for sale, and has a lo

I used this brushing and flossing chart to supplement my kindergarten lesson on dental health. We had a dentist guest speaker, and we used marshmallows, toothbrushes, and yarn to demonstrate brushing and flossing - it was a great lesson! To follow up, I used this chart for the kids to bring home and check off each day when they've brushed and flossed (with the help of a parent). This chart was a is a great way to explore and extend any dental health lesson/presentation.
