I've participated in several math committees and teams to develop curriculum and grading scales. Want to motivate your students to WANT to improve at word problems???? Make it a class versus class competition if you teach multiple math classes. If you are self-contained, you can make it a competition between the students. I used it with my second-grade class one year and the goal was to try to beat the class best. Looking for something to help teach elementary math with a focus on standards-based grading? If so, you've come to the right place! I am an educator of 23 years. Teaching style

My teaching style is a mix of old-school and hands-on. I know students need to move around and touch materials to learn. I do believe one-on-one teaching and math manipulatives are very valuable in a successful math classroom. I also believe students need lots of practice. Today's students need to get off the iPads and work more with paper and pencil.
