I used this for an assignment during my Grade 5 First Nations & Europeans unit. This was a way to have students make connections to First Nations culture by creating a totem pole, connecting to animals and the values they hold. Here is a seasonal Math and Art activity to tie in spatial sense. Students can draw a village and provide coordinates for the different drawings (house, community centre, tree, etc. whatever they draw). Then they can provide directions from place to place (e.g. go north 2 squares, east 4 squares). This give the artistic students an opportunity to shine in math.
