This resource pack outlines each step of Inquiry-based learning process providing teachers with ideas of how to guide students to:· develop questions;· plan and manage their time;· find sources of information and to use and record it;· use checklists and rubrics to assess their progress; and much more.
Evaluating works together with presenting to allow students to assess their learning. They are able to self-evaluate and also obtain feedback from their peers to help them to identify where they could make improvements to ensure that the next inquiry project, they involved in allows them to address the areas where they experienced problems.
Students are ready to present the answer to their question. Presenting not only provides students with the opportunity to share their learning, but also provides them with the possibility of assessing how well they were able to work through the process. The presenting step of inquiry-based learning clearly indicates what students are capable of when they are given a choice in their learning.
Students take notes as they search through credible and relevant sources for information, they would like to include in their inquiry learning presentation. Students have the choice of online note-taking as opposed to writing their notes. There are many possibilities of doing so now, to choose from. Online note-taking has the added advantage of groups being able to share their notes and keep it organised in one place.
Once students have found information they have to determine if the information will be useful. Comprehension strategies which students have used during literacy lesson, such as skimming and scanning, can to be very valuable during this step. Students also need to learn to determine whether a source is credible, relevant and accurate. These are important steps teachers must take to help students develop their critical thinking skills.
Step 2 of inquiry-based learning reminds students of the variety of resources available to help them find information as they seek to respond to their essential question. Students do not have to automatically reach for a digital resource but use the opportunity to explore and get to know different resource types. People are an invaluable resource and are much easier to contact than they were prior to the launch of social media platforms. They will also prove quite helpful if students' inquiry pr
The first step in the inquiry learning process provides students with the opportunity to decide on their essential question if they have reached the stage where they are ready to embark on their own inquiry learning journey. I have outlined a process that students could follow as they make their way through this step: -the poster should serve as a reminder of how students can: * brainstorm; * create a mapping of their brainstorm; - develop their essential question; - they will need
The purpose of the poster pack is to provide students with a reference document that they can rely on to guide them through the inquiry-based learning steps outlined. The verbs labeling each step is a reminder to students of what they should be doing and provides them with tips on how they could possibly tackle each step. The focus of the poster pack is to encourage students to feel supported as they embark on becoming increasingly in command of their own learning, giving teachers the opportuni
Graphic organisers such as KWHL Charts will help students organise information as they follow each of the steps of inquiry. This KWHL chart was created as a visual reminder for students of the steps they could follow to answer their essential question. The colourful chart relates to information particular to each of the steps of the inquiry process.
