This is year 40 coming up!!! I have taught grades 7 through university over the years. Currently I teach Spanish III and IV, which is mainly 10th and 11th grade.
I originally developed these activities to accompany the FluencyMatters novel, Esperanza, by Carol Gaab. However, they certainly may be used in any unit of study that encompasses immigration, particularly from Central America.
Included in this 28 page product are an original story based on the song Ave Que Emigra by Gaby Moreno, nine activities to accompany the song, a followup song called Guatemorfosis by Gaby Moreno with a story retell activity and two additional clozes for both songs. The sto
This is a two or three day mini unit that would be a great addition to a cultural unit about Colombia, or a unit about sports, in this case, cycling.
Carlos Vives has recorded a song to call attention to the importance of cyclists in Colombia and to pay homage to some of the world famous Colombian cyclists. It has been beautifully filmed in the Colombian countryside with the people, especially children, of Choachí, Colombia. The music soars and cannot help but make you smile.

The music of Juanes is very popular with students learning Spanish. As part of a unit on Colombia, Juanes and social awareness, the song "Segovia" is ideal for reading, listening, speaking and writing activities, all of which are incorporated in this product. On November 11, 1988, armed men entered a plaza in Segovia, Colombia and a massacre ensued. This product contains an original story based on those events as well as activities tied to the song lyrics and the story.

Can love conquer everything? A video with a twist!! This song, which debuted in November of 2017, is a class favorite for my Spanish III and IV classes. It could also be used in a Spanish II+ class or AP class. The material contains information about the artists, essential vocabulary and discussion questions, an original story based on the video and lyrics and eight additional activities. Depending on which activities you may choose, you may spend up to 5 days with this song.
This activity packet for the song "Un Poquito Tuyo" was created for Level III or above. I hope you enjoy it. It is relevant to the AP themes:
Contemporary Life
Personal and Public Identities
Beauty and Aesthetics.
It includes 9 different activities to go with the song as well as 59 slides in a Google presentation.
Almost all students like the music of Juanes. Here are three "not so well known" songs: Sueños, La Bandera de Manos y Segovia. The songs may be used to increase knowledge of events in Colombia or to emphasize the themes of dreams and goals, peace, or unity. They also work well to reinforce specific grammatical topics, such as the past tense or the subjunctive. Additionally, the songs fit well into thematic units for social awareness through music.
