I made this sheet as an assessment for multiplying and dividing fractions. It contains 15 problems and challenges students to multiply and divided fractions, mixed numbers, and whole numbers in an assortment of combinations. This sheet would serve as a good pre-test, a review sheet, or a quiz. An answer key is included.
This quiz assesses students' ability to add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers. This goes along with CCSS 4.NBT.B.4, under using "place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic."
The quiz consists of 11 questions and includes a mix of addition and subtraction problems, including 2 word problems.
I made this activity to help students understand physical changes to matter. Students rotate through 6 stations physically changing matter using basic items found in the classroom. The idea is for this to be a discovery lesson where students discover what a physical change is and develop a definition of physical change. I teach this after teaching them about physical properties and before teaching about chemical change and chemical properties.
This lesson contains teacher and student directi
I made this packet for my students to use during a newspaper unit. This is a fun way for students to practice writing informational text. This comprehensive packet contains 19 pages of practice on analyzing news articles, reading and writing leads, organizing news articles, and the last few pages provide students the opportunity and tools to write their own news articles.
I've used this packet for the past few years with my fifth grade students, and they've always enjoyed it - especially writ

This is a creative way for students to practice organizing the details of their writing in sequential order. I use this activity when I teach students about text structure. After they've explored different texts that are organized sequentially, I set up this activity so they can practice organizing their own writing in sequence. Students will be writing about an event that happens in their classroom - a visit from a creature - which you will create.
When the students are out of the room,
I made this sheet as a review for a fractions quiz, but it could just as easily serve as the quiz itself. The sheet covers identifying fractions, simplifying fractions, finding equivalent fractions, converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions, and comparing fractions.
I made this activity to serve as a fun way for students to apply what they learned in the probability unit. Students rotate through 6 hands-on stations where they calculate mathematical probabilities, complete experiments, and then calculate the resulting experimental probabilities. The stations use basic materials that should be found within your classroom or school, like dice, coins, spinners, etc.
The activity requires a knowledge of mathematical probability and experimental probability fo
I made this activity as a way for my students to discover pi, or the relationship between the diameter of a circle and the circumference.
In the activity, students are asked to measure various circular items using a string to find their circumference. Students compare that to the circle's diameter to discover that whatever the size of the circle, the circumference is always 3.14 times larger than the diameter.
I use different circular items of all sizes found in my classroom: trash cans, cu
I made this activity to use as a problem-solving activity after I've taught the basic concepts within our fractions unit. In this activity, students are given 10 fraction cards and a strip of paper, and they are asked to correctly place the cards on the strip of paper to form a fraction number line. Students must use their knowledge of what is a fraction, comparing fractions, simplifying fractions, and equivalent fractions to correctly place each fraction.

This is a packet I made a few years ago for a unit on persuasion. The packet is designed to be all-inclusive as it takes students through what is persuasion, opinion statements, reasons, and transition words. There are worksheets practicing each skill as a reader and a writer, and the packet culminates with a persuasive letter assignment and a group persuasive commercial assignment. The packet contains hand-outs, note sheets, worksheets, rubrics, and even a spot to write their persuasive lett
I made this activity as a fun way to keep my students busy working towards their writing objectives while still embracing the Valentine's Day holiday. Students will write a fictional story related to Valentine's Day. It doesn't have to be a love story. They will need to include the sayings from 5 conversation candy hearts in their stories. For example, if the heart says "Fax Me," then they need to work the saying "fax me" into their story. My students always enjoy this challenge.
I have my
This quiz can be used to assess students' ability to add and subtract fractions, including mixed numbers. There are problems with like and unlike denominators, and there are problems with mixed numbers and whole numbers. An answer key is included.
This is a practice worksheet I made for identifying various reading genres. It is useful for assessment or practice.
Students are asked to classify stories based on details from the plot, and they are also asked to classify stories based on the title.
I made this activity to use as a problem-solving activity after I've taught the basic concepts within our decimals unit. In this activity, students are given 10 decimal cards and a strip of paper, and they are asked to correctly place the cards on the strip of paper to form a decimal number line. Students must use their knowledge of what is a decimal, comparing decimals, and equivalent decimals to correctly place each decimal.
This file contains teacher directions, the student decimal cards, an
I made this sheet to assess students' understanding of place value. The different math concepts measured by this quiz include base-ten theory (10 times greater & less, etc.), place value, value, comparing numbers, and reading and writing numbers in word form, expanded form, and standard form.
There are 18 questions on the quiz, and I score it out of 20 points.
I made this game to help students practice comparing fractions to see which one is greater or if they are equivalent. The game is played just like the card game war, but it uses a deck of fraction cards instead. This file includes teacher directions, student directions, and 2 sets of fractions cards that the teacher will need to prepare.
I've used this activity for many years with my 5th graders, and they always enjoy playing it.
This math assessment can be used as a pre and post test for fourth grade math. It can also be used to help determine appropriate math placements at the beginning oo the school year. The assessment has at least one problem for each standard in grade 4. There are 50 questions in all, which helps facilitate determining a student's overall percent correct.
This document will serve as a nice addition to any existing assessments you use, as it will help provide another piece of data regarding st
I made this sheet to help reinforce with my students the idea that "in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right."*
The worksheet has students calculating 10 times more or 10 times less than a number for several numbers. Students are then asked to analyze their responses and record what they notice. I allowed my students to use a calculator, if they needed to, to complete the calculations because my focus was on their ob
This quiz assesses students' basic understanding of 4 main types of figurative language: simile, metaphor, hyperbole, and personification. It contains 10 multiple-choice questions that require students to identify the type of figurative language being used in a sentence.
This could also be used as a review sheet or a pre-test.
I made this problem-solving activity for my math students to solve after they learned about compound events. Students need to understand the difference between dependent and independent compound events to solve this problem. The problem is embedded in a realistic situation, so students need to determine what information is important and relevant before solving the problem. The multiplication of fractions required for this dependent event might seem lofty at first, but if students simplify fac
