I use this presentation to introduce my students to the commutative, distributive, and associative properties of operations. The lesson starts with defining the terms commute, distribute, and associate. From there it connects those definitions to the properties and gives examples of each property. The show ends with some sample problems that students are encouraged to do mentally by using the properties. You should run this file as a show, as there are custom animations in it.
I made this slideshow to use as a multi-media approach to introducing my 4th graders to division. It is intended to promote and be used in conjunction with teacher explanation, class discussion, and student exploration.
The show walks students through what division is/means. It progresses through comparing division to other operations, especially multiplication. Lastly, there are slides that are intended to go along with student exploration of manipulatives, so you will want to have counters
