Children are surrounded with Christmas images every November and December. But, do they know about the other winter holidays celebrated in the United States? Here are short summaries of las Posadas, Kwanzaa and Hanukkah.

Enclosed are thirty-one word searches, one for each day of the month of December. Each page starts out with a short summary of something significant that happened on that day in history. Underneath is a puzzle containing key words from the summary. Have your students do one a day or save them to use throughout the year when you are teaching topics related to the wordsearch.

This is a lesson to teach students about peace. It includes a word map, higher order thinking journal prompt and art activity. The lesson will prompt students to think about what it means to live in peace and have them create a peace tree to decorate the classroom with or take home to discuss with their families. I've done this with my students and they were excited to share what they had learned and done.

Here are the materials you will need to have your students create their own snowman glyph. They will begin by learning what a glyph is. They will look at a model glyph and analyze it for the meaning conveyed through its details. Then they will read step by step directions and create their own. Finally they will analyze a partners. Students build their vocabulary through making word associations. They build their logic skills through analyzing analogies. So, word analogies are exactly the type of critical thinking skills we should have students engaging in on a regular basis. Included in this packet are six word analogy Centers around subjects including: U.S. geography, math, art, measurements, opposites, and word parts. Your students will learn what a glyph is, make their own and analyze class data in this fun Easter activity. They will begin by learning what a glyph is and how to use one to convey and analyze data.
