It's My Life: A real-life budgeting activity with decimals

This activity is a great way to apply decimal skills to real life. Students will manage a budget and write checks to pay their bills. There is also a group activity at the end that allows them to experience real situations (doctor bills, eating out, etc.). My students LOVE this activity!

Graphing Lab with Candy!

This activity is a perfect way to check for understanding as you teach graphing to your students! Students compose a frequency table, bar graph, stem and leaf plot, line plot, and find the measures of central tendency while using candy. They also analyze the data once they have calculated it. This project allows students to apply their knowledge of scale and proportions to a room in their own house. They create a model after collecting actual measurements and choosing a scale. This is a great way to assess knowledge of solving proportions along with scale and scale factor. Rubric included for grading.

Students love looking at each other's data and discussing it while demonstrating their understanding of these important concepts.
