About the store
13 years full-time teaching Geography (Earth/Social/Environmental Sciences). Seven of those years as Head of Department. I have been fortunate that my career so far has led to amazing professional development, such as organising field trips as close as the Norfolk Coast and as far away as Yellowstone National Park. In 2013 I was part of a group who worked with teachers in Malawi. In 2017-18 I went on a year-long sabbatical, mostly in the United States. I spent two months in Colorado working with climate scientists at NOAA, and two months in California working at the Exploratorium museum in San Francisco. My experiences were shared via my blog at Geogramblings.com, which also acts as a resource bank for other teachers.

Students explore push and pull factors of rural-to-urban migration in LEDCs/developing countries using a set of mystery cards. It is based on a woman who lives in rural Gambia. The task encourages co-operative and dialogic learning, and then asks them to apply the idea into over contexts. This is a legacy resource and will no longer be updated, and so has been permanently discounted down to $0.99. Tourism In The Alps & Climate Change

I remember reading the giant IPCC report on Climate Change as part of my degree, that time spent actually came in handy later as I used the report to rustle up a handout about climate change in the Alps as part of a unit about tourism. I ended up turning it into a whole lesson activity. This is a legacy resource and will no longer be updated, and so has been permanently discounted down to $0.99. UK Links With Malawi (Imports and Exports)

I created this resource for visiting Primary Schools as part of a Malawi Conference, involving teachers from Malawi through the Norwich-Dedza Partnership. The cards are a fun way to explore what Malawi exports to the UK, and the spider diagram gets pupils to attach their lives with the imports brought into the UK. I was expecting older kids than 5 year olds, but it worked from them! This is a legacy resource and will no longer be updated, and so has been permanently discounted down to $0.99. If

Haiti Earthquake Stories

I wanted to bring the Haiti earthquake to life in the classroom. Learning about it through textbooks or the news was a little dry, so I did some research on the news and packaged some together to form a resource. I use this for some role play activities, where the pupils act out the picture & caption they have been given, building empathy with those caught up in the earthquake. I then use the touching Hector Mendez story as a "teacher in role" activity, which can get a bit emotional. Please f

Teaching style

Active, sometimes dramatic! (Also have a drama background). I usually like to steer away from using textbooks, but do see the value of them with some learning objectives and lessons. I aim to be very visual, interactive and creative with my resources.I am a total digital geek - and like to use GIS and social media in learning (e.g. Twitter and Facebook).

Awards & shining teacher moments

My work has often been used as examples of outstanding practise within my regional network (Norfolk, UK). In 2013 and 2016 I led the Geography department at my school to the UK's Geographical Association's Secondary Geography Quality Mark (SGQM) National Award and Centre of Excellence, in which lesson provision, planning and materials formed a substantial part (see the GA SGQM page.). I have articles published in national educational magazines and give talks, lectures, training and CPD to teachers and trainee teachers nation-wide.

My own education history

A degree in Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia, UK (2001-2004). Completed my teacher training in 2005.

Additional biographical information

Proudly transgender, and an activist for environmental, LGBT+, minority and feminist causes. Pronouns: they/she.
