This interactive Smart Board lesson introduces the basics of square roots, and works its way up to evaluating expressions within a radical, solving radical equations, approximating square roots to the nearest integer without a calculator, and simplifying both numerical and variable expressions in a radical. As a bonus there is a video of the new Kumanjaro ride linked to one of the slides with a square root word problem. The students loved it and it really brought square roots to life for them.

Teaching style

My basic teaching style is a Do Now, Homework Review, an interactive mini lesson, and then a fun activity to solidify the concepts in the students' minds.

My own education history

I have a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting along with a minor in Mathematics, a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics Education with a Specialty in Grades 5-9, and a Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership.
