All of us have had a squirrely class come in from recess, or maybe the energy in the room is a just little too buzzy for no particular reason. This song is for you! Create a relaxing environment in no time at all, while allowing your students the opportunity to move and tune into the learning environment. Having taught first grade for nearly a decade, I've realized the power of music and its impact on children. It encourages critical thinking, social interaction, appeals to multiple learnin

This an original audio recording about making inferences. This song could be used in conjunction with any lesson about the skill of making inferences. I've used it in the past after an introduction to inferences. My advice is to parse the song into phrases and ask the class to examine their meaning. Then use quotes from the song when students are attempting the skill. Having taught first grade for nearly a decade, I've realized the power of music and its impact on children. It encourages

This an original audio recording designed to aid teachers when indoor recess has concluded. I've always played this song to encourage my students to clean up quickly and quietly. The idea is when they hear the tune begin, they immediately stop playing and start cleaning. They are then expected to finish and return to their desks before the song is over. It works! (and it's fun!) Having taught first grade for nearly a decade, I've realized the power of music and its impact on children. I

Learning should be fun! This writing center really motivates students to write a quality description piece. Included in each center activity (front and back) is a drawing game, a description web plan and room for writing. Students are pitted against each other in a fun game. The object is to complete the drawing of some specified animal or person before your partner does. They roll dice to determine which part to draw next. If one student rolls the same number as in a previous roll

These worksheets are designed to be used as bell work or for centers. They are great for getting students to carefully note important details. The attraction for students is the chance to be artistic. Of course, they are also learning a valuable skill. Note students are encouraged to use highlighters as they read the text. This gives the instructor insight into their abilities and thought processes. If used for bell work, I always take the opportunity to share student work with the

Learning should be fun! This is a wonderful center for students. It gives them the opportunity to move a little bit, but also gets them to read carefully. Think of charades with an academic element. Instructions for use: Make a copy of one of the pages on cardstock. Cut the sentence strips apart and place them in a pile upside down in the middle of the group. A student flips over three of the strips and leaves them out for the group to read silently. No one is allowed to talk during

About the store

Experience

This is my twelfth year teaching. I spent eight non-consecutive years in first, a year in second and the last three years in third.

Teaching style

I believe school should be fun. I spend a lot of time thinking up ways to make activities and lessons interesting for my students. My classroom is full of movement, interaction and sometimes noise. There is structure, engagement and learning taking place at every possible opportunity.

My own education history

I attended grade level schools in Colorado Springs, Colorado. My undergraduate degree in history and education came from the University of Northern Colorado. I earned my masters in second language acquisition through the same institution.

Additional biographical information

I live in Fort Collins, Colorado with my beautiful wife and three lovely children. I love teaching and sharing ideas.
