About the store

Experience

28 plus years teaching language arts, reading, and drama in two middle schools in Florida.

Teaching style

I was a teacher of middle school language arts for over 28 years. My schools were high SES schools, so I tried to come up with challenging assignments for my students. I expected my students to read outside of class, so I often created reading quizzes to make sure that they did so with reasonable retention of important characters and events from each chapter. I also enjoyed creating assignments that were more open-ended, and allowed students to work up to their level and beyond, with no one correct answer.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I was team leader for over half my teaching years and received National Board Certification early in my career.

My own education history

BA in English from the University of Florida. BA in Journalism from the University of Florida. Masters in Education from the University of Florida.
