About the store
I have been teaching and coaching for over 20 years in grades K-5 in urban, suburban, rural, and international schools. I have also worked as a gifted and talented teacher for grades preK-12 and I now work with a class full of English language learners in an international school, so differentiation and extension are key components to lessons I design. I love all things literacy and I try to create more effective ways to promote deep thinking and lasting learning for the students and teachers I work with. Since I also do a lot of work training teachers, I have developed a passion for well-designed professional development. About my store name: I LOVE reading and I have always over-enthusiastically modeled this love of reading with my students in hopes they will love reading as well. Somewhere in my career I started using the send off "Happy reading!" after my mini lessons as students go off to read independently. They always giggle, which means they start their reading off with a smile on their face-- a great way to start any reading session!

Fully editable graphic organizer (2 versions) and 3 pages of name games and community building games to use during a "meet the teacher" period or the first week of class. When students are finished, use the organizers as beginning of the year bulletin board decorations, then as portfolio cover sheets. Easy, fun, and not "too cutesy" for older kids. A great way to begin to get to know your students and to help your students get to know each other!

**UPDATED!** Guided Reading is a classroom structure that we all know is important but it often takes the back seat to our other lesson planning duties. In addition, guided reading looks different and means different things from school to school and classroom to classroom. Consequently our guided reading sessions can lack focus or structure, making them less effective than they could be. Planning for effective guided reading lessons does not need to be time intensive.
