I've been teaching AP Biology, Marine Science, Anatomy, Sustainability and Physics since the year 2000. I recently completed a Masters in Education Teaching & Curriculum with a concentration in Physics. I have written several curriculum guides for my district including example lessons that I conduct annually. I will strive to revise and add new lessons as I evolve my courses to lean mean learning machines. Thank you for your support! And, good luck in your teaching endeavors.

Basics to Neurons & Neuroscience ONLINE ACTIVITY WORKSHEET via Genetics.Utah.

This easy to edit word doc is a great resource for a single class period investigation of neural transmission/cell to cell communication, that begins with students drawing and labeling a neuron, moving-on to investigate the dopamine pathway and wrapping up with identification of cell types of the human brain using a single website. This is a quick investigation that usually takes AP Biology students about 30-45 minutes to complete. I use this worksheet to introduce cell to cell communication an

Marine Science Buoyancy Hands On Paper Boat Building Creation Laboratory Race

This Hands-On Creation Laboratory allows students to research the concept of buoyancy and test their knowledge by designing a boat that they create from a small list of classroom resources. Students will gain an understanding of how we ship large amounts of weight by way of water transport, ship hull design, and propulsion methods.

Marine Science Biology Making a Hydrometer Making Percent Solutions

This laboratory experience enables students to create a hydrometer using clay and straws to measure unknown solutions. Students begin by calibrating their devices using percent solutions that they must make. They can then use their device to measure unknown solutions provided by the instructor. Students are asked to convert units of measure. Additional research questions are provided that go beyond the laboratory activity.

Investigating Plant Studies: Identifying Parts of a Controlled Experiment

This worksheet allows students to investigate example plant experiments that help to plant the seed for their own plant experiments. This worksheet introduces the terms aquaponic and hydroponic, gives many examples of soil experiments and is a great introduction worksheet if you are considering aquaponic, hydroponic or soil based student created experiments. Easy to edit MS Word format. (Answer key in description) After defining the terms associated with the parts of an experiment, students read

Investigating Homeostasis - Introducing Biology Next Generation Science Standard

This easy to edit Word Document teaches the reasons why we teach common topics throughout the country using the Next Generation Science Standards. This document creates a pathway to addressing two Next Generation Science Standards right off the bat. Students read the directions, read the science standards, define key vocabulary in the standards to ensure that the standards are understood. Second, students work together in groups or individually to design a model or create an experiment to displa

Investigating Cell to Cell Communication Fight or Flight Internet Investigation

This quick investigation of the fight or flight response uses the Genetics.Utah.Edu website to complete. This document has the required hyperlinks embedded and uses only one website to complete the activity. Therefore, this does require internet access to complete. My AP Biology students usually take 30-45 minutes to complete this assignment. The document begins with a simple question about what might set off the fight or flight response pathway. It then moves the student to the website video a
