Basic Pre-Algebra Bonus Bingo game for SMART Interwrite Board

This is an activity I use when reviewing for tests. I created two blank BINGO cards with the possible answers along the edge. Students then fill in (with ink) the answers into the two blank cards and we start. I also suggest setting a maximum number of points possible to achieve. To keep everyone active, I will put several problems on the board at once (about 4) a

Teaching style

I believe in teaching both the theory with the math but also practical real-world uses of the current topic. These include a project with cryptology utilizing matrix multiplication, land navigation and trigonometry, and projectile motion and basic quadratics, to name a few. I also believe technology is important in education but should enhance a curriculum, not overpower it.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Maryland Council of the Teachers of Mathematics High School Teacher of the Year, 2011 Carroll County Outstanding Teacher Award, 2010 Northrop Grumman Weightless Flight of Discovery Recipient, 2007 Carroll County Outstanding Educator with Technology Award, 2007 Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Recipient, 2005 Semi-Finalist, Maryland Teacher of the Year, 2005 Carroll County Teacher of the Year, Carroll County (MD), 2005 Teacher of the Year, River Hill High School, 1997

My own education history

I started in the military and after moving into the National Guard, began working with a contract engineering firm. I realized my calling was in teaching and completed my certification. After teaching for 5 years, I needed a change and went into engineering sales work, primarily in the manufacturing sector. With the birth of my daughter, I wanted to spend more time at home but also realized how much more I could do in the classroom than in a manufacturing plant. After only two years back in the classroom, I was named Carroll County's Teacher of the Year and was a Maryland Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalist.
