Students will have the opportunity to create their own book about the seasons. The activity includes an introduction about the earth's axis and how its tilt determines the seasons. It also comes with a fill-in-the blank activity sheet that correlates with the book. The students are given information about summer. The Lab Safety activity allows students to cut and paste titles, pictures, and descriptions to the inside of a lab coat. It is an excellent way to begin the year, introducing basic lab safety to elementary students. It is also helpful in establishing expectations for cutting, pasting, and note-booking.

Goldilocks and the Three Polar Bears is an original piece of fiction aimed at reinforcing the scientific concept of energy. The student is asked to read the story and identify types of energy found throughout the story. As an ELAR extension, the student is asked to fill out a plot diagram that coincides with the story. The cards include words, pictures, and definitions for vocabulary such as matter, states of matter, solid, liquid, gas, mass, volume, luster, texture, size, density, buoyancy, sink, float, evaporation, condensation, etc. It also includes measuring tools and units such as triple beam balance, beaker, graduated cylinder, grams, milliliters, etc. The cards can be used as a memory game, as a triple card sort, or as an over-sized tic-tac-toe game that measures 5 squares by 5 squares.

This is a hands-on group of activities. The package includes an introductory article, moon phase card sort activities, and a card sort quiz that students can insert into their interactive Science notebook.

Students will be introduced to 20 pieces of lab equipment and will have the opportunity to infer the purpose of the equipment based on their observations.
