Students sort cards in INB or on notebook paper. They sort by the heading Rate, Unit Rate and Ratio.
Tips: Unit Rate is per 1 unit
Ratio compares 2 numbers
Rate compares 2 different units of something
Using angle relationships (comp/sup/vertical) with solving equations.
"Use facts about complementary, supplementary, vertical and adjacent angles in a multi-step problem to write and solve equations for and unknown angle in a figure."
Problem of the day or Warm up or used for an exit ticket.
Students must
-Find Unit Rate
-Draw a picture representation
-Make a table
-Tie a Division problem to the picture and solve!
Shows several methods/ways of attaining the same answer and representing it in many ways. Many students know the answer immediately, but when they have to represent with a picture or a division problem they get stuck. Can be individual or whole group instructed.

Sort the problems into 3 categories according to the answer. State whether the answer is positive, negative or zero. Can be used as a quick informal assessment or used in an interactive notebook.
10 problems to use as assessment, classroom review, practice, whatever you choose.
Students check boxes if they had trouble solving and then we use the thumbs up/thumbs down to indicate if they got the problem correct or not (more of informal assessing than grading).
You can easily track where they are on a data sheet with how many thumbs up out of 10 they are getting correct. I usually require students to be a 7/10 before they can move to next standard 7 EE 2.
Students will write a proportion and solve to find the unit rate (using fractions). There are 10 choice answers to use for 5 problems. Distractors allow you to see if a student understand how to set up the ratio and solve correctly. Can use for a quick small formative assessment of knowledge.
5 Question Check in to see where students are at. Can use as mini assessment, exit tix, in class quiz...
Find interest, rate, time principal and total balance :)
Conceptual Card Sort
Have students use the headings on a tri-folded a piece of paper (sometimes on the copier I shrink the cards to 80% or 70% so they will fit in their INB). Then have them sort accordingly. I tell them do NOT glue until we have went over correct answers as a whole class.
For my students that need a little help...
at the bottom of the trifold I have them write in BEFORE the activity
1. bottom of positive......same sign (multiply and divide)
2.bottom of negative.....differ
