Here is a bundled package I created for NYC DOE's Grade 2 Social Studies Scope and Sequence Unit 2: New York City Over Time. It has a portfolio piece with a teacher/student rubric (have student complete rubric for ownership of work), and a Bulletin Board Task Card if you choose to hang it up.
This is an ENL writing assignment for for English-Language Learners. It is for comparing and contrasting old NYC with new NYC for the New Language Progression. There is an attached self-evaluation scoring rubric to give students ownership over their work. It's a Word Document, so you can modify it as needed.
Here are 2 rubrics (one standard, and one differentiated), I created for students to use when they are doing partner work or group work. It's a way for them to have accountability and responsibility for themselves. I usually have them take it out when we do "Turn-and-Talk," sessions. At the end of the classroom discussion, I have them close their eyes, put their heads down, and use their fingers to show me the score they would give themselves based on the rubric (1-4). I keep a record of how
Here are rubrics I created for students to evaluate themselves when they are writing a response to something they have read. I refer to it as the "Rainbow Reading Response Rubric" (how's THAT for alliteration?), and my students easily find it in their folders. It has a standard and differentiated rubric: print out the 2 pages double-sided and have the students choose.
Here is a Unit's worth (5 weeks) of standard and differentiated personal choice boards that I created. Print each week out double-sided (one side standard, one side differentiated). Students can choose an activity each day while their friends are in a guided reading group. These boards coincide with the Grade 2 Wonders Reading Program. It is a Word Document, so feel free to change things around (obviously you will delete my name in the upper right-hand corner), or just use the template for you

I created a blank, generic word bank template for students who are English Language Learners (ELLs). There are two banks on the page so you can make multiple copies for your students. I plan to get it blown up to chart size and laminated so I can reuse as necessary in the classroom.
I created this Word Document writing piece with ENL Methodology for elementary school-aged English Language Learners. It is a bundle and every item has an ELA CCLS (specifically for grade 2, but you can change it). The first page is a graphic organizer for letter writing, the second page has cloze sentences in letter format, and the third page is a self-evaluation rubric specific to the task. The students fill it out themselves to have ownership over their education. There is a disclaimer at t

Here is a good activity to encourage collaboration for Turn-and-Talk Higher Order Thinking questions. The students have accountability, get involved, and build off conversations. Best of all, it's fun!
I use reference charts all over my classroom, but decided to make ones to be used in a vertical flip-chart. I like using these when I'm reading with a small group to help them focus on reading skills and strategies (main idea/key details, fact vs opinion, figurative language, etc).. It is multiple pages long.
I made a graphic organizer and a "sentence starter sheet," which has a student self-evaluation rubric on the bottom so they can take ownership over their work. This is a "I Wish My Teacher Knew..." I decided to use sentence starters so that all the children in my ICT class could complete the assignment. Note that it says "teachers," as it's an ICT class. You can add a "next steps," section if needed. It's a word document, so you can change it around as you see fit; be sure to erase the teachers
I dislike the Wonder Works Weekly Assessment questions. They are complicated, and my students become confused with "Find this word and put a box around it," or "Underline the sentence that helps you understand what this word means." So, I created a 10 question, three-choice multiple choice weekly assessment for each week. Each one is labeled with a Unit # and Week #, as well as the title of the passage. I made sure it tested the skills that the original test was assessing, and cross-referenced i
I created this generic form letter for teachers to give to parents. It is especially useful to provide information to families new to the city, country, and the school system. It is geared for Department of Education elementary public schools in New York City, but since it's a Word Document, you can edit it to suit your needs. It includes info about the school, what balanced literacy is, the class schedule, Tuesday afternoon meetings, and most importantly, what Fountas and Pinnell means. There
Here is a 3 point task and rubric I created for my English-Language Learners (who also have IEPs). This task aligns with NYC DOE's Grade 2 Social Studies Scope and Sequence Unit 3 Topic: How Are Communities the Same/Different? (I focused on urban and rural communities). Have the students fills out the rubric with you to take ownership over their work.
Here is a three-point portfolio piece that I created to go along with a topic covered in Unit 4 for NYC's Social Studies Scope and Sequence: laws, rules, and consequences. There is a self-evaluation rubric attached so students can have ownership over their education. If you choose to put this on a bulletin board, check out my corresponding task card.
Here is a 3-point portfolio piece (or quiz), for your students. It aligns to the NYC DOE's Grade 2 Social Studies Unit 1 Scope and Sequence. If using this for a bulletin board, check out the BB Task Card I created for this assignment in my store.
This is something I created for my students for when they have to turn and talk to each other. I like that it's colorful and simple, with an added explanatory picture for students who have trouble reading. Print it out and make each side the same (tape a craft stick to one side and staple the pages together. I actually laminated them and then stapled them. One student holds it up and both students are able to read what it says.
