Beginning Movie Elective/Film Appreciation Editable Presentation

One of my favorite electives I teach is Film Appreciation for middle schoolers. This set includes an introductory lesson with a fill-in, follow-along worksheet for the students and a slide presentation in PDF, mP4, and an included online link to access the presentation and edit as you choose (located on the teacher outline PDF). The lesson is simple for them to understand and follow, while still learning the basics of film. I used my old favorite movies, but I have created everything in Word so

Christmas Party Sign Up Sheet

This is the Christmas Party sign up sheet that I use for our class party. I also send out an email to parents. Kids enjoy signing their name and what they are bringing (after they discuss it with their parents, of course!) I love to have a buffet of treats for them while we watch a Christmas movie. It's such a fun and memorable way to end school before Christmas break! When they leave I give them a candy bar wrapped with a message from me (see another listing for that!) Positive or Negative -Editable Lesson/Chapel for Elementary or Middle School

There was a time when I noticed my class shifting towards negativity overall. They were arguing more than usual, making comments that were sarcastic and unkind, and were just not the kids I knew they could be. I wrote this lesson as a way to help them evaluate their attitudes and situations and demonstrate what they came up with for our elementary chapel service. I divided my students up into groups and gave them scenarios in which they wrote the scripts. You can use students or not in the prese

Influences Lesson/Chapel for Elementary or Middle School- Editable Presentation

I have been teaching chapel services for elementary and middle school students for years. I have tried to create chapels that get their attention and deliver a biblical principle they can remember. Using props is a great way to reinforce the message and help kids understand the theme. This lesson would be great as a chapel or in your classroom. For this lesson, I discussed what can influence a student's life. The overall ideas include the influences of entertainment, friendships, and God. The

Weekly Mind Set, 20 Weeks, Set #1

Students have so much filling their lives these days - from stresses at home, school, and sports - just to name a few. I noticed over the past few years that I needed to get the kids in a good mind-frame for the week and for each day. I did this through consistent Morning Meetings and by using these forms as a tool. If they think of positive things in their lives, a challenge they have, and what they are thankful for, it helps them to balance their feelings and stresses for the week. I let them

Superhero Lesson featuring Corrie ten Boom for Elementary Chapel/Class- Editable

My students love superheroes - and this lesson really caught their attention. It's great to talk about superheroes and what makes the characters they love appealing to them... and then tell them they are about to learn about one of my heroes and show a picture of Corrie ten Boom. The look on their faces was priceless! I briefly cover her story in a very edited way for younger students, and when I taught this to middle school I elaborated more about the horrific circumstances facing Corrie during

Parent/ Teacher Conference Sign Up Appointment Time Notice

I am a little old fashioned when it comes to sign ups for my class. For a couple years I tried using an email blast for parents to sign up for conference times, and I used a sign up program I found on the internet once, but neither produced results for me like sending home a hard notice. I emailed out a notice that it was coming home two weeks before my due date, reminded parents in my newsletters, then sent a final email the night before it was due. This helped greatly and I usually had meeting

One of my favorite classroom culture builders was creating a "VIP" zone. I had two desks that had a special set of supplies (like mechanical pencils, gel pens, a stapler, etc.) in a rolling cart. I filled it with lined paper, their own tissue box - the works! I put chair pads on their chairs and although I meant to and never did - I wanted to put a little rug under their desk area. On the Mondays the selected two students came in and saw they made VIP. I put a special piece of candy on the VIP d

Pass A Story

This is one of my students' favorite activities in any grade I've taught! I used this as a fun Friday activity, or something they can earn up to. Everyone starts with the form and chooses one of the three beginnings I provided on the form. They just start writing and coming up with their own story. After maybe 1-3 minutes I say "Stop, Pass!" and they pass the paper to the next person. That student reads what was written then continues the story. I let them go a little longer sometimes and really

Nature Video Note Taking Form for Elementary or Middle School

I love the Disney nature movies and videos. My students have loved them, too. I use the videos for substitutes or to go along with a Science unit. I created this easy form so while the kids watch the video they list things they see and think through what's happening. I usually give a small prize to whoever can list the most creatures they see. I usually have kids flip over the paper and fill the back, too! Thank you for looking! Jenny

Chapel for Elementary Age Students - Tricks for Treats

I have been teaching chapel services for elementary and middle school students for years. I tried to come up with chapels that got their attention and delivered a biblical principle they could remember. This particular chapel I did two years ago and students come and ask me about it still. For this chapel I had a friend come and bring her well-trained dog. The dog performed tricks and was given treats. The theme of this chapel was that you don't do "tricks" to get God's blessings. You obey God

Why Do We Have Problems? Chapel for Elementary or Middle School

Why do we have problems? My students have brought this up almost every year I have taught during our Bible time. This chapel covers that question for young Christian minds. I broke it down into four simple parts: sin in the world, it is a chance for us to grow, to help others, and sometimes we just don't know. Each point has scripture and assurance that God is good and is there for our students. The notes pages of the slides has the script that goes along with it. Thank you for looking and God

A Broken Heart Chapel for Middle School

**Updated for 2025** I first taught this chapel years ago, and I still have students (who are in college!) come back to me and tell me what an impact it had on them. They remember it and the image of a torn-up heart taped back together. This chapel is fun, and may take just a bit of effort to put together, but it is really worth it! I inserted a picture of me in seventh grade and several of my co-workers, but you can omit that if it doesn't work for you. It's super fun for the kids, though, and

Teaching style

I love creating a culture of respect, rewards, and fun in my classroom. I believe if a student feels loved and appreciated, they are open to learning and correction. I want the kids to know that I am there for them no matter what, and being part of the "family" of our classroom means there are times to give and receive. One of my favorite things is when past students return and hug me... I am thankful for serving them and their families.

Background and BS in Business Management

Additional biographical information

My background was in banking and marketing before I was blessed with my family. When my youngest was ready for Kindergarten, I decided to teach. I have now taught in Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Grades. I have had all three of my own kids in my class and have had the greatest journey. Teaching is the hardest job I've ever had - but where else can you be a part of a child's life and be a second parent for a season? It's incredibly rewarding, sometimes frustrating, and always renewing itself.
