One of my favorite electives I teach is Film Appreciation for middle schoolers. This set includes an introductory lesson with a fill-in, follow-along worksheet for the students and a slide presentation in PDF, mP4, and an included online link to access the presentation and edit as you choose (located on the teacher outline PDF). This is the Christmas Party sign up sheet that I use for our class party. I also send out an email to parents. Kids enjoy signing their name and what they are bringing (after they discuss it with their parents, of course!) I love to have a buffet of treats for them while we watch a Christmas movie. I noticed over the past few years that I needed to get the kids in a good mind-frame for the week and for each day. I did this through consistent Morning Meetings and by using these forms as a tool. I am a little old fashioned when it comes to sign ups for my class. For a couple years I tried using an email blast for parents to sign up for conference times, and I used a sign up program I found on the internet once, but neither produced results for me like sending home a hard notice. I emailed out a notice that it was coming home two weeks before my due date, reminded parents in my newsletters, then sent a final email the night before it was due. One of my favorite classroom culture builders was creating a "VIP" zone. I had two desks that had a special set of supplies (like mechanical pencils, gel pens, a stapler, etc.) in a rolling cart. I filled it with lined paper, their own tissue box - the works! I put chair pads on their chairs and although I meant to and never did - I wanted to put a little rug under their desk area. This is one of my students' favorite activities in any grade I've taught! I used this as a fun Friday activity, or something they can earn up to. Everyone starts with the form and chooses one of the three beginnings I provided on the form. They just start writing and coming up with their own story. After maybe 1-3 minutes I say "Stop, Pass!" and they pass the paper to the next person. That student reads what was written then continues the story. I love the Disney nature movies and videos. My students have loved them, too. I use the videos for substitutes or to go along with a Science unit. I created this easy form so while the kids watch the video they list things they see and think through what's happening. I usually give a small prize to whoever can list the most creatures they see. I have been teaching chapel services for elementary and middle school students for years. I tried to come up with chapels that got their attention and delivered a biblical principle they could remember. This particular chapel I did two years ago and students come and ask me about it still. For this chapel I had a friend come and bring her well-trained dog. The dog performed tricks and was given treats. The theme of this chapel was that you don't do "tricks" to get God's blessings. You obey God

Why do we have problems? My students have brought this up almost every year I have taught during our Bible time. This chapel covers that question for young Christian minds. I broke it down into four simple parts: sin in the world, it is a chance for us to grow, to help others, and sometimes we just don't know. This is a full resource packet for a Science Project or Fair. It is designed as a first or second independent science project.
