This is a guided inquiry unit that can cover ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Mayan, Aztec, Inca, Japanese, and Chinese civilizations, if your class has the time to cover all of these fascinating early societies. Students learn the traits of civilization and conduct research using the free, mostly kid-centered websites and videos that have been provided. Additional biographical information

I was extremely inspired by the book "Ish" by Peter H. Reynolds where a boy discovers that things don't have to be "right" as long as he enjoys what he does and likes his results himself. I try to apply this principle to all my teaching; both as a mantra for the students and as a guiding concept for my lesson planning. I think you'll find some of my ideas as a little out there, but fun nonetheless!
