Kat - I have taught 1st grade for 19 years. Previously I taught 6th grade, 7th grade, and 5th grade. I also worked as a museum education coordinator as well as graduate class instructor for 2 WI universities and 1 MN university.

Plant Adaptation Book to Illustrate
This book was created for my first-grade classroom following proposed CCSS for science. I am planning to assemble the books ahead of time (one per child) then read through the book large group stopping to let the kids add illustrations along the way. I think the kids will really enjoy the interactiveness of the book and being able to create their own illustrations. I will probably show different examples of how to draw the plants on the board.

Save the Empire is our first attempt at a breakout / escape-the-room style game for classroom use. Teaching style
Kat - My teaching style is centered around building positive relationships with my students. I want them to trust me that the knowledge I'm sharing with them is important. Typical lessons include modeling, movement, communication, hands-on learning, guided discovery, independent practice, and constructive feedback. I find my students learn best with mini-lessons that build on previous lessons. I also love to be a little silly at times!
Squirrel - With a compulsion like a squirrel gathering nuts, I like to unscribble any problem, desire or design need that I can.

Kat - I am from Wisconsin and have 2 sons. Kyle is going to a UW college to be a computer scientist. Dan is an entrepreneur and is currently selling real estate. I love to read, write, make art, and travel. I especially love to travel to California in order to hang out with Squirrel!
Squirrel - I currently live in Central California with my husband and our dog, Boonabean. My happy place is floating on a raft on Arnold Creek, Hatfield, WI. (In the summer!)
