Do you want your students to dig deeper into the characters in the novels or stories they read? Do you want them to connect with them on another level? Then the Character Journal Project is for you (and your students)! With this project, students will keep a character journal over the course of a novel or story that they read. Experience

I am a Language Arts and Reading teacher of gifted students. I have taught every grade from 1st-6th, but this year I am currently teaching 5th and 6th graders.

Teaching style

I desire for my classroom to be a place where student have the opportunity to learn and experience literature and creative ideas. I guide them along the process, but ultimately I am preparing them to be independent learners. I believe student engagement is key and allowing students to take ownership of their classroom and their learning. We use a lot of technology and workstations in our classroom. My goal is to allow students a place to develop as learners and readers. I want to find refreshing ideas and new ways to teach them concepts so they can not only learn them, but apply them in their lives.

My own education history

I went through the gifted program at my elementary school, and now I am back teaching in the same gifted program. I am even teaching alongside of one of my previous teachers! I have a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a Master's in Gifted Education.
